When we stepped inside, I moved closer to Fox as Lenny flanked his other side and Dawson took hold of Lea’s hand. I felt the atmosphere shift immediately, the air thick and heavy.

The space looked different; bright lights and servers delivering drinks instead of there being a crowd gathered at the bar, but a shiver still shook my spine and the hairs on my neck stood up, as if invisible lips were whispering against my skin.

“You feel it too?” whispered Fox, looking wide eyed around the room.

“Sorry, I still can’t believe I brought you all here,” Lea mumbled from beside me.

“Let’s go charm some people and then we can leave. Thirty minutes, tops,” Dawson suggested as we neared the crowd waiting to meet the band.

“Stay with Nee and Lenny. Do not touch a thing or go anywhere.” I gave Lea a look, and she nodded.

“Yes, sir.”

I winked and twitched my head for Lenny to come and join the girls. Leaving them at the bar, I hated the familiar feeling in my gut that told me that something bad was about to happen.

Lea

“Ican’tbelieveyouchose to come here. It’s giving me the willies with all the lights are on. I can’t imagine what the place is like on a normal night,” Nee hissed as we stood next to the empty bar.

“The place is freaky,” a voice replied as a blond waitress appeared next to me, putting a tray of empties on the side. She turned to look at us, her familiar eyes locking with mine. “Oh, my God. It’s you. Wait, is he… is your boyfriend Fox Garrison? I can’t believe I didn’t see it at the time. I’m such an idiot.”

I shook my head, trying to shake the feeling rippling under my skin. My heart hammered in my chest, bile rose in my throat and a sharp pain ripped across my stomach. Screaming, I gripped my side with one hand, while the other hand reached for the bar because I wasn’t sure my legs were going to hold me up. Nee was next to me in a second.

“Lea?”

My breath came out in short pants as I tried to breathe through the pain.

“Lenny, go get the boys,” Nee instructed.

“I can’t leave you—”

“I’ll go,” the blond woman offered. As she moved, she saw the tattoo on my arm. Her face paled, and she avoided my eyes, but I was in too much pain to question why.

As she vanished into the crowd that had gathered around Alchemy Myth, it hit me where I knew her from. “That was the witch.”

Fox

“Excuseme, excuseme.”A small blond woman pushed through the crowd until she stood in front of me. “Fox Garrison, nice to meet you… again.”

I frowned and Marshall stepped closer, obviously thinking what I was; an overzealous fan.

“It’s your friend. The one with the tattoo.” She glanced at my arm, biting down on her lip as she stared at the ink written there that I’d come to love. “I don’t think she’s well. She seems to be in a lot of pain.”

Marshall’s face fell. He whispered something to Dawson and without another word we were all moving, Archer and Charlie right behind us along with the mayor, who seemed to be a permanent fixture tonight.

When we got to Lea, she was leaning over, grabbing onto the bar with both hands, her knuckles white with the pressure. Nee was rubbing her back as she pushed her hair back from her face.

“Le?”

She twisted to look at me. “It hurts, Fox.”

Marshall moved to the other side of her. “Hurts how, Sugar?”

“My stomach feels like it’s being ripped open and my back is on fire.”

“Let’s get you to the car. How far is the nearest hospital?” he asked the blond.

“At this time of night, with traffic. About half an hour, maybe longer.”
