I pushed my fingers through my hair, frustration building in my gut. “Pretty sure the only thing you need to be a dad is what you fill Lea and me with on a regular basis, so you do have it in you. She’s on her period anyway, so stop stressing.”

His eyes widened. “Do you want kids… will she? I’ve not thought about...” He turned, his eyes landing on Marshall. “Do you want them?”

Marshall shrugged. “I’ve never really thought about until now.”

“And?” Dawson sounded almost crazed now.

“And… her being pregnant wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world.”

Daw glanced down at his phone before leaping out of his seat. “I’ve got some calls to make. I’ll see you all in a while.”

Weallstoodinthe bathroom of the hotel suite, staring at the pregnancy test they bought the minute we arrived at the hotel.

“Are you all happy now? One line which means I’m not pregnant, just like I said I wasn’t. Why the hurry to make me do a test?”

“We just wanted to make sure, Sugar. You’re not yourself, you were sick on the flight, you’re exhausted all the time… I guess it all just, well, I just wanted to check.”

“And if I had been?”

“Then we would have dealt with it,” Dawson answered far too quickly.

I let out a gasp, my hands flying protectively to my slightly rounded but not pregnant belly. “What the hell does that mean?” I whisper hissed, despite it only been the four of us.

Fox stepped up behind me and wrapped his arms around me. “What he means is, we would have sat down and discussed it, but you’re not pregnant, so no one needs to panic. We have years to talk about kids. Right, Daw?”

His face softened. “Sorry, I think I freaked out. I mean, dirty diapers, screaming all night, a messy house, no routine… it’s like my worst nightmare.”

My face crumpled. I’d not thought about having kids before, but suddenly I felt this overwhelming urge to be fat and swollen with their babies.

“Look, let’s not fall out. We need a holiday. Just the four of us. I don’t want to spend it fighting over a baby that doesn’t even exist,” Fox said, reaching out for Marshall and Dawson, his arms still around me. They took hold, and he pulled them closer for some weird group hug where I was in the middle. Surrounded by the scents and the familiar feel of their different bodies, I let out a sigh.

“I love you all so much. Let’s have some fun while we’re here.”

Marshall

“Youhavegottobe kidding me,” I hissed as I got out of the car, closely followed by Dawson, who looked as shocked as I felt.

“Dawson, thank you for agreeing to tonight. I know it was last minute, but the town is so happy you’re here and that we could play a little part in the creation of such an iconic album. We thought we could throw you a party, and this is one of the most historic clubs in the city,” the mayor announced as we stood in the entrance of the very place we were cursed in.

“Is this a joke?” Fox muttered as he climbed out, Lea following him.

“What? Sorry, have you been here before?” the mayor asked, smoothing down his suit as photographers aimed their cameras our way.

“You could say that,” I whispered under my breath, wrapping my hand over my right forearm, feeling weirdly protective of the words written there; as if they were somehow about to change forever.

“Come on, let’s get you all inside. There are lots of important people from the city waiting to meet you.”

“What the hell is this place, and why do you all look like you’ve seen a ghost?” Charlie asked as Nee and Archer leaned in to hear my answer.

“This is where we came.” I held out my arm and their eyes widened in understanding.

“Shit,” Nee whispered. “I don’t want to get cursed, Arch.”

“No one is getting cursed again, but no one drink anything in there. I mean it. We’re pretty sure we were spiked.”
