I pulled out some bills to cover dinner, along with a generous tip. “Lord, Sugar, why do I feel you’re going to get me into a whole heap of trouble?”

She wiggled her eyebrows, holding out her hand as she stood and I took it, trying not to notice that neither of us released our hold on each other as we left the diner and stepped into the New Orleans sun.

Chapter 9

Fox

“Youfiredhim?”

Dawson stood in front of the bathroom mirror, a towel wrapped around his waist, shaving, which was way hotter than it should have been.

“I did. I mean, the cheeky fucker watched us with Lea.” He plunged the shaving foam covered razor into the sink of hot water, shaking it clean.

“I mean, I think it’s kind of hot… he’s pretty hot, too.”

“I guess, but God, he could have videoed us and sold it to the highest bidder. The label is relaxed but I don’t think ‘we didn’t know he was on the bus’ would work as an excuse with them if a sex tape of the three of us made it onto the internet.

“But he just watched?”

“Apparently. Lea took him out for lunch and talked to him.”

“Right.”

“He likes watching.”

I couldn’t help the grin that spread across my face. “So I hear,” I replied because I’d spoken to her as soon as I learned that Dawson fired Marshall, knowing that she could calm Daw down but also knowing she could get the lowdown on our new bodyguard because, according to Lea, he didn’t just watch us. He fucked his hand until he came while she watched him too.

“It’s my job to protect you, Fox. I didn’t do that. I let you down. God, I let Lea down too. You should be furious with me.”

I reached out and took the razor from his hand, tilting his chin up and holding the blade millimeters from his exposed neck. “Can I?”

“Yes,” he let out breathlessly. I pressed the razor to his skin, dragging it slowly, before washing it and then repeating the process until his skin was smooth and his hard cock tented against his towel.

“I liked the idea of him lurking in the shadows,” I admitted, watching Daw’s throat bob as I snatched the towel from the rail and wiped away the excess foam from his face. “Can you imagine another pair of hands on Le? Can you imagine another body between us?”

His eyes flared as if he was playing it through his mind. “He is pretty easy on the eye, but how do we even broach the subject? I mean, I’m sure I’d be breaking about seventy-two employment laws by telling him that he’s welcome to come and watch us fuck, never mind mentioning that he can join in. Is he even into guys… or girls… or sharing? It’s a minefield.”

I wrapped my arms around his neck, angling my head so I could look at him before I kissed him. “What if we let Le talk to him? They seem to have a connection already and she’s not a part of the band, so that makes it less awkward than us propositioning him.”

“But we have it so good right now. What if he messes us up?” My heart lurched as I heard the tiniest slither of vulnerability in his voice, but I didn’t let him know because I knew he’d run just to hide it.

“Hey, you have nothing to worry about. If it doesn’t work, then we’ll put an end to it. You, Le, and I, we work. I don’t want to risk that either, but like I said, it could be fun.” I pressed my lips to his, kissing him just the way he liked it; hard, deep, and filled with the emotion he never seemed able to vocalize. When I pulled away, his eyes were dark and his chest heaved. “I like you, Daw. You know that, right? I like you a lot. I know Le feels the same. We’ve been fooling around for months and I couldn’t imagine you not being a part of what we have.”

Again, something flashed over Dawson’s face that looked like emotion, but like he’d flicked a switch in his head, it vanished just as quickly as it appeared. “One day, Daw, I will make you crack and you will finally feel able to tell me what you’re thinking.”

Dawson chuckled. “In your dreams, Bunny.”

“Come sit. We need to clear the air.” Lea dragged Marshall into my hotel suite, pointing at the sofas. He perched himself on the edge of the seat as if he was ready to run at any second, his eyes fixed on Dawson’s.

“Relax, Marshall. Lea pointed out that I might have overreacted by sacking you… for now.”

“Dawson,” Lea cried.

He shrugged. “First thing to learn about me is I’m blunt. I don’t have time to fuck about trying to make people feel good if they’ve fucked up, and so if I’m feeling a certain way with you, you will know it. Is that good with you?”

“Yes. Actually, I prefer that.” Leaning back in his seat, he stretched his arm across the back of the cushions as he crossed his legs at the ankles, looking sexy as hell.

“And the second thing is, no more watching us from the shadows unless we know you’re there. If I can’t trust you to tell us, then I’ll get you a collar with a fucking bell on it so you can’t sneak up on us.”
