“You need a bodyguard,” Marshall mumbled.

“I’ll take my chances with whoever is on shift outside that door. Take the day off. I don’t really want to be around any of you when you’re in such shitty moods.”

Daw opened his mouth to say something, but closed it again, nodding. “We’ll meet you on the bus. I’ll get Charlie and Archer’s stuff loaded on the other one.”

I let out a sigh, knowing nothing good was going to happen on that bus.

“Coffee?” Marshall asked.

I shook my head. “Water would be great, though. Thanks.”

He handed me a bottle.

“Where’s Le?”

He twitched his head to the stairs that led to the upstairs bedrooms. “Asleep.”

“And Daw?”

“He’ll be here in a minute.”

I opened the bottle and took a long drink, my body feeling so dehydrated that I groaned when it hit my throat.

“I don’t understand.” Marshall pushed into the bench across from me. “I didn’t drink last night. Dawson doesn’t drink. Do you think we were spiked?”

“Who knows? All I remember clearly was arriving, Lea getting her tarot cards read and then dancing. You danced.” I laughed.

Marshall’s brows pinched. “Let’s never speak of that again, shall we?”

My lips curled into a smile. “Make me.”

He flattened his hands out on the table before letting his eyes meet mine. “Fox, I like you, but I’m really not into guys.”

“Sure,” I sighed out before taking another sip of water.

“But, I guess this…” He stared down at the tattoo on his arm. “Means we’re stuck together.”

I looked down at my matching one, tracing my fingers over the cursive letters. “It might not mean what we think it does. I mean, what’s the worst that can happen? What doeswe’ll falleven mean?”

“You remember what she said, right? That being apart would be our undoing.”

“Yeah, right,” I scoffed. “What, is one of us going to meet our maker or something if someone leaves? That’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard.”

“New Orleans is a fucked up place. There is some seriously dark stuff that happens there. Do you really want to test it out?” His voice lowered to an octave that made me shiver, foreboding heavy in his tone.

I shook my head. “No, not really, but then I was happy to stay together anyway, so it doesn’t feel like that much of a curse.”

His mouth fell open. “Really?”

My shoulders bounced in reply.

“Yeah, for now. Until you got bored. I mean, I know you have feelings for Lea… maybe even Dawson, but I’ve been about for a few days and only because I accidentally watched you guys fucking.”

“You feel like a good fit.”

He made a noise that sounded like heartbreak, but before I could question it, he spoke again. “Until you decide that I’m not. But if we’re believing this craziness is all true, then now you have to keep me around, whether you want to or not.”

“Who hurt you?”
