“Connected. I mean, Fox and I. God, I love that man… and then Dawson. You know we’ve been hooking up for a bit, but even things with him have changed, become something more, and then Marshall…”

“Marshall just works for the band. It’s not like you were sleeping with him.”

I didn’t say a word in reply to Archer’s comment, picking something invisible from the sheets instead.

“Lea? I’m your best friend. I demand you answer Archer.”

“We did. Just the once, but…” I looked at Archer, who mimed zipping his lips, promising to keep my secrets. “It was everything I’ve wanted, Nee.” She looked at me blankly and in that moment, I hated that she had no memory of the millions of conversations we’d had over the years. But then I took her hand and squeezed, because she was healthy and going to be okay, so I had a lifetime to make new ones. “Your art opened my eyes to everything that was out there, which helped me realize I didn’t want anormalrelationship. I wanted something like I’ve found with them. Actually, it’s pretty much everything I dreamed about.” A contented hum sounded in my chest.

“So maybe if you are cursed then it’s a good thing?” she questioned.

I raised my shoulders to my ears. “For some of us. Not so much for everyone.”

“Marshall?” Archer asked.

All I could do was nod.

She hugged me tighter. “What are you going to do when you get back to the UK?”

“I have no idea.”

Marshall

IstoodoutsideIonee’sdoor, one of the other bodyguards watching Fox, while I made sure the woman who attacked her didn’t come back.

Suddenly, Maverick Stone appeared—I recognized him from watching his gigs on TV—holding hands with a stunning woman and they walked alongside an enormous man with a shaved head and beard that looked like he could take me in an arm wrestle.

“Marshall? I’m Addi. This is Mav, my husband, and Matt, who runs our security.”

“Hey. Nice to meet y’all.”

Addi smiled. “I bet that accent gets you into so much trouble.”

Mav turned and glared at her. “Stone, are you flirting? I’m not above sacking him.”

“You sound just like Dawson,” I muttered.

“How are you settling in with Alchemy Myth? They treating you right?” she asked.

I clasped my hands in front of me, pulling my arms tighter into my body. “Yes, ma’am.”

She patted my shoulder, leaning in close. “I heard about your matching tattoos, which means they all know too.” She looked between the two men. “We don’t have secrets. Cosmic God rule. You should think about introducing something similar for the four of you. Trust me, honesty is everything.”

I let out a long breath.If only she knew.“Maybe,” I mumbled.

“Right, we’re going to go have a chat with Nee. Is Archer in there too?”

I raised my eyebrows toward Pete, Archer’s protection, who was standing just across from me, and she shook her head. “Stupid question. Where else would he be? Matt, why don’t you take Marshall for a coffee? Get one of the others to come and keep guard, will you?”

They disappeared into the hospital room, closing the door behind them. Matt typed out a message and within a minute, a man I didn’t know appeared in front of me.

“Eli, this is Marshall. Marshall, Eli.” We both nodded in a silent greeting. “Can you watch Mav and Addi for me? Call me if they want to leave and I’ll come back, but Rogue and Tanner are coming as well and I think they will all be in there for a while. Do not let anyone in that’s not on the list I’ve just sent you. Understood?”

He nodded. “I’ve got it, Matt.”

“Coffee?” Matt asked, pointing to the corridor. I thought he’d take me to the vending machine down the hall, but instead, we took the elevator down to the ground floor and went to the coffee shop across the street.

We ordered, and he pointed to a table in the back corner.
