He pushed himself up, his body stealing my breath. “Thanks.”

“No bother. Are you okay? Lea was worried about you.”

His face fell. “Oh, so you’re on babysitting duty because I had an emotional breakdown. Great. Thanks.”

Anger flared in my chest because no matter how much we tried to get to know this man, he never let us in. “Actually, I made you breakfast because I care about you. We’ve been together for months now. Am I not allowed to want to take care of you?”

“I’m not into fucking men, Fox. How many times?”

“Yeap, I made you pancakes because I was hoping you’d finally give in and suck my cock. God, you’re still such a wanker. We’re in a relationship, whether you want to fuck me or not. I’m just trying to be a friend. Do you have friends, Marshall? Because when I’m sad or upset, my friends take care of me. And I’ve seen some of their cocks too and never slept with them. Fuck, you’re so obsessed with making sure we know you’re not into guys that you can’t let Daw or I get close, and it’s fucking hard work.”

His mouth fell open.

“Do you know, I stayed home today becauseIwas worried about you, but you’re not worth my time. Enjoy your breakfast. Let’s hope it doesn’t choke you.” And with that, I slammed out ofmybedroom and stormed downstairs.

I was eating another mouthful of my Avo toast when Marshall appeared in the doorway dressed in a pair of black gym shorts and a white baggy vest top, with a baseball cap on backward. I tried to stay focused on my phone and not the 6 foot 3 American beast in front of me.

He placed the tray on the side, rinsed his empty plate before placing it in the dishwasher and then refilled his coffee.

“You want another?”

I shook my head.

Sitting across from me, he leaned back in the seat, staring at me until I looked up.

“I was a wanker.”

“Yup.”

“I’m not used to doing this?”

Curling my hand into a fist, I huffed out my annoyance. “For fuck’s sake, Marshall, you can’t keep doing this. None of us know what we’re doing, but we’re trying. We didn’t know you either, but we’ve welcomed you… into my home, into our relationship. You can’t keep using these tattoos as an excuse. Whether this curse is real or not, we’ve chosen to stay together. None of us really do relationships. So why do you get to be the wanker and we all have to bend over to try to keep you happy?”

“I meant, I’m not used to being open about my feelings. Being vulnerable. I broke down sobbing in the shower on Lea last night, as she obviously told you. I was embarrassed.”

“She didn’t tell me anything other than she was worried about you.”

“Really?”

“Really.”

“Yesterday was my friend’s birthday… would have been his birthday.”

“You lost them.”

His face crumbled. “He died.”

“And how did it feel to get upset about it? I guess you don’t do that very often.”

“It hurt.”

“And holding it inside?”

He let out a noise as if he was having a realization. “Has been killing me. Slowly.”

I offered him a soft smile, grateful that he was finally being honest with me about something. “What can I do? I feel like you need a distraction and usually I’d offer to drop to my knees and give you the best head of your life, but you’ve made it perfectly clear you’re not into me, so what else can I do?”

Something flashed across his face that I was sure looked like desire, but, just like Dawson, this fucker was a closed book, so it could just have easily been disgust.
