“Mom, that’s crazy.”
“Well, you know what he’s like. He’s preparing to die and nothing I say will change that. He wants to see you and Amelia married and secure.”
Aidan shook his head.
He wasn’t going to pretend he understood what his father was going through, but none of this was based on facts or common sense.
And didn’t justify what he said to Lily.
Not for a second.
“Mom, I’m a billionaire and I can find my own wife. In fact, the woman I love refuses to love me back because of his actions.”
“Lily?” she asked.
“Yeah.” Sadness spread through him, knowing she was in that damn apartment on her own. Aidan knew she would be hurting and grieving for her dad.
The man in him needed to protect her. To love her. To care for her.
“Are you sure you love her?” she asked and his heckles raised.
“Mom, do not start.”
“Youarevery different. That might not mean anything to you, but it will to her,” she said. “However, if you love one another,trulylove one another, then it won’t matter.”
Aidan stared at the carpet as her words sunk in.
“How will I know?”
“You listen to your heart.”
