Anger blurred his vision.
I’m done. I’m fucking done.
“Not one fucking call or text, Lily,” Aidan ground out, even though he stood alone. Pain, unlike any he’d ever felt before in his life, lanced through every inch of his heart. Stabbing him every second, he stood watching. “Message received loud and clear. Goodbye, baby.”
Aidan took one last look as Lily pulled out of Matt’s arms, and when she didn’t move far, he spun on his heels, walking back to his waiting car.
The forty-eight hours were now up.

LILY WIPED THE TEARSfrom her eyes and turned back to her mom. She was exhausted and depleted in every way imaginable.
Goodbye, Daddy.
Her mom tossed a yellow rose down on his coffin and Lily said a silent prayer and dropped hers down next.
Returning to her mom’s side, she watched as the other mourners, friends, and colleagues of her dad began to do the same.
“Lily, would you—” Matt started to say, but his voice drowned out when something caught her eye.
Aidan?
The man was walking across the grass toward a waiting vehicle. Even though he was a distance away, she knew that body. Knew that powerful frame and large shoulders.
Oh my God, itwasAidan. Her body was moving before she knew what she was doing.
She began to walk fast.
Then she ran.
“Aidan!” Lily called as he reached the car and opened the door.
No!
She kept running across the grass, dodging gravesites.
Sorry, sorry.
Aidan climbed in, leaving one leg out as he arranged his coat. Then it lifted, and the door began to...
“Aidan!” she screamed.
Nooooo.
The door opened.
Oh, thank...Lily began to stumble, falling hard on her hands and knees.
“Lily?” Aidan cried, and she looked up just as he reached her. Tears poured from her eyes.
She scrambled to get up as he pulled her to her feet.
“I thought you had left,” she panted.
Oh God. She had to tell him. It had changed everything. Or rather, it had given her the clarity she had needed.
None of the other stuff mattered anymore.
