Page 26 of Ruthless Temptation

I’m highly aroused by a man who wants to own my body for a few days. He’s making me have the dirtiest thoughts. But he’s out of my league and I think he’s playing me.

Still, Lily was tempted to let him.

Just for a few days.

Then she would return home to the South Side and pretend it never happened.

“Sounds like you’re having fun. Wish Emma and Logan all the best from us.”

“I will. How’s Dad?”

“The same,” her mom answered. The same answer she gave most days, and the one Lily was hoping to hear.

It wasn’t going to get any better than that. Not at this point.

Her chest relaxed. “Good.”

“Enjoy yourself while you are there, Lily. Don’t worry about your dad,” Angela Peterson said. “There’s nothing we can do except let him go when it’s his time.”

Lily sighed. She knew that, but the waiting was hard. It was a cruel juggle of wanting to freeze time and sardonically wanting the torture to be over.

Grieving someone while they were alive was exhausting. And yet, she felt heavy with guilt even thinking about herself.

Lily had been close to her father, Gary, all her life. She was unashamedly a daddy’s girl. He’d always been a cuddly father and taken her everywhere.

When she was small, he’d carry her on his shoulders. When she started school, he helped her with homework and taught her to ride a bike. Lily and her mom always went to watch him play football, and as she got older, she would go with him and help sometimes when he coached local teams.

Soon he wouldn’t be with them, and a gaping hole would be left behind.

In some ways, he was already half gone. Gary had lost so much weight and was half the man he was. He had no energy and his smile looked way too ethereal for her liking.

“I know. I will, Mom,” Lily said.

“I better go. I have to get to work after making your father's breakfast.”

“Call you tomorrow.” Lily ended the call and walked into the bathroom.

Her mom was right. She needed to relax and just have fun. Shewashaving fun.

Heck, she was staying in a beautiful suite in the Dufort Waikiki, hanging out with some of the wealthiest people in America. She’d just danced the night away at the infamous Aloha Bar and a gorgeous man was attracted to her.

But.

Lily wasn’t going to forget what her priorities were. She was going to keep her feet on the ground and not get to wishing she was this wealthy, or hope to fall in love like all the wives and girlfriends in the family had.

She didn’t fit into this world.

Her goals were clear.

Help her mom with her dad until he left them. Work hard at her job—ignoring Matt’s wandering hands—and save until she could go to college and get her Bachelor of Education.

Then she would finally fulfill her dream of becoming a teacher.

There would be no Chanel dresses or huge diamond rings in her future. No private jets or first class.

Lily would meet a local man and fall in love and make her dad proud by living an honest life.

But while she was here, on this dream vacation, Lily was going to have fun.
