Instead, he’d only taken a little bit, dropping his mouth to hers and lifting her off her feet, his arms tight around her back as he spun them.

“I love it,” he’d said, and the smile she’d given him in response had undone him. Before he could say something stupid, he’d shaken his head, grabbed her hand and said, “Come on, peaches.”

“God, these malasadas are divine,” Harper moaned.

“Don’t do that,” Daniel growled.

“So good,” Kristen said, offering one to Emma and Logan. “Want one?”

They both shook their heads, but Addison and Hunter reached out and took one from the box. Lily declined and pushed out her legs on the sand, her white cotton dress fluttering in the light breeze.

She was glowing.

And too fucking far away from him.

Kristen and Jackson jumped up. “Who’s up for volleyball?”

“I’m in,” Logan said. “Bro?”

“Yeah, I’ll play,” Aidan said, then kicked Jacob and Blake, who’d shown up with a bunch of beers.

Thankfully, his parents had decided on a quiet night in their suite.

Aidan lifted his brows in question at Lily, who had a notebook on her lap and was sketching. He’d been leaning over her shoulder and watching her for the past forty-five minutes.

They were amazing, and he wondered if she knew how talented she was.

“I’m recovering from the SUP,” she said. “I need a whole day in the hot tub.”

“Girl, I hear you,” Harper said.

“Same. Whose stupid idea was it?” Emma asked.

“Yours!” All the girls cried, laughing.

Aidan shared a smirk with the boys, and someone tossed the ball at him. He reached out, snapping it out of the air, and threw it at Blake.

“Drop the beer, Jacob,” Logan yelled out.

“God gave me two hands for a reason,” the youngest Dufort replied.

For the next few hours, they played volleyball. Family sports in this family were highly competitive, and somehow Harper had appointed herself the point scorer, andsomehowher husband’s team ended up winning.

“Damn cheats,” Logan muttered as Fletcher, Hunter, and Daniel slapped each other’s backs.

“We should have appointed Lily. She’s neutral,” Aidan said.

“No thanks. Every single one of you threatened Harper’s life at some point. Even her bodyguard was starting to look concerned,” she replied.

“To be fair, Daniel threatened no sex. But I think we all know he didn’t mean it.” Harper grinned.

“Stop talking, wife,” the big guy said, kissing her on the lips.

Aidan wished he could do the same to Lily and the way her eyes drifted to his, he got the feeling she did too.

Risking some funny looks, he tugged her down on the sand next to him and let a stupid amount of happiness spread through him as everyone hung out chatting. It was the most relaxed he’d seen his family in a long time.

It also allowed his older cousins and younger ones to get to know each other better.
