CHAPTER TWENTY-ONE

Aidan considered hishangover a blessing in the end. If he hadn’t been feeling so dehydrated and groggy, he knew he would’ve started drinking early and made some poor decisions.

He wasn’t a huge drinker.

Like most of the Dufort men, Aidan loved a good drop of Macallan. Even a nice cold vodka.

Today, though, after learning Lily had left and not messaged him, he was furious with her.

Worse, he was angry with himself for not being home. Then he blamed his father for causing his angst the night before and going to Lahaina in the first place.

If he’d been at the house, he would’ve heard what happened and been able to...

What?

Go with her?

That wasn’t an option. But he could’ve said goodbye and told her he would be with her in Chicago after the wedding.

Except it was bluntly obvious Lily didn’t want that.

Not one fucking message.

Aidan let that sink in. Lily didn’t need him.

He stood staring out the window as Logan did up his shirt behind him.

“Just call her, Aidan.”

“No.” He turned. “She needs to focus on her father. Dealing with me is the least of her problems.”

Obviously.

He got it. He did. But that didn’t mean it didn’t sting.

Aidan could have taken care of her. He could have arranged the jet and paid for her to get home.

Instead, another man had done it while he was off in a bar drinking merrily.

What an asshole.

Lily was his.
