I saved them all, Dad.

“So, you just going to sit back and let your girl marry this Todd schmuck?” Mack shakes his head at me.

Connor drops his phone on the desk and narrows his eyes. “You have a girl? Fuck, what did I miss?”

I let out a laugh.

No, I’m not going to sit back. However Isabelle needs to make the decision, and after investigating Todd Witherspoon for the past few days, I’ve gathered quite a bit of data on him that I’m pretty sure she will be surprised about.

In Mexico, she told me she’d known Todd since they were kids. That’s true. Their families are friends and have socialized for decades. That doesn’t mean she knows him or who he’s become.

Their engagement was announced quietly years ago, and they have been courting - for the lack of a better word - since then.

Being that they aren’t dating.

Neither of their social media shows them together except for one night a week, when they go to the same restaurant for dinner. I checked out the bookings at Tower Restaurant and, yup, it’s a regular booking made by Mr. Witherspoon running for another six months.

I felt sick when I figured out what the date is—their wedding day.

I wonder how well she knows him because... well, let’s just say I am going to make sure Isabelle has all the information so she can make a decision regardless of how she feels about me.

Maybe I just can’t stop protecting her.

I don’t know if I ever will.

I love her. I fucking love her. With my entire dark heart.

So, I have to do this right. If I go flying in there, she will send me away again.

I meant what I said. She can return to me when she figures out she loves me. If not, I will have to live without her. But not without a fight. So, it’s time for one last covert job.

“I need your help,” I say to my fellow Dark Kings. “To get my girl.”

“That’s not what we do here.” Connor squints.

“I’m in,” Mack says. “So is he,” Connor starts to argue. “Mia will kick your ass if you don’t.”

A smile spreads across my face as Connor tosses back the rest of his beer. “Fine. Operation... wait, who is your girl?”

“Isabelle,” Mack and I say together as if it’s obvious.

“Jesus,” Connor says, palming his head. “Mia is going to kill me. Mack, you better keep away from the rest of her friends.”

“No thanks, I like the bachelor life,” Mack replies as Connor points to him.

“Focus,” I say to them, walking to the whiteboard and wiping it clean with the duster. “Okay, this is what we know.”
