Ten minutes later, we are heading to Hell’s Kitchen to a restaurant I’ve not heard of before. I mention it and Mia says she’s never been either.

“It’s a weird choice,” Mia says, glancing at Connor. “Perhaps I’m just getting used to all this fine dining, my darling husband.”

He lifts her hand and kisses her wedding rings.

Sickening.Yes, I’m jealous.

“It’s hardly a dive. It’s in Hell’s Kitchen,” Connor says, adding, “My little mafia princess.”

“You’ve turned into such a snob, Mia,” Sienna teases.

“I just know my husband. What are you up to?” Mia replies.

I watch Connor and Nathan glance at one another and narrow my eyes at them. Perhaps they have a surprise for the girls.

I stay quiet. I’m probably going to leave early as I’m tired and feeling a little third wheel. Even though I’m not because Mack is with us. Plus, being around these big Marines is making me miss Decker a lot.

There’s only so much my heart can take.

Pretending I didn’t fall in love with him is exhausting.

DECKER

––––––––

Ilift the tumblerto my lips and sip the iced water. To others, I assume it looks like gin or vodka on the rocks and that I’m just some dude drinking on his own.

I’m not.

I’m working.

This isn’t a place I’d usually frequent. It’s full of suits and everyone is pretending to be someone they aren’t. I’ve heard more than enough assholes talking about the deals they made, the money they’ve earned and the pussy they’re eating tonight by rich fuckers that I’m becoming allergic to bullshit.

It’s grating at my nerves, so when an old eighties song comes on, it takes the edge off.
