CHAPTER 35

Angel

Oh my fucking god.Nikolai is going to kill me.

“Benjamin! Put the fucking phone down! You are not telling Nikolai about this!”

The scene of me jumping onto Benjamin’s back and climbing him like a monkey up a tree to snatch his phone out of his hand would probably be a funny scene to those who didn’t know the severity of it. Also, they’d probably think we were two crazy people arguing in front of the hospital.

“If I don’t tell Nikolai then it’s going to be my balls on a silver platter!” Benjamin hissed while trying to throw me off his back.

Putting on my best smile of confidence, I chuckled nervously, “Don’t worry, just let me take care of it. Both our asses will be fine. I’m his wife. You’re one of his best men and friend. He’s not going to kill us...”

I hope. I hope he won’t kill us.

“I might be one of his best friends, but that is not going to be a valid enough reason for me not to report this shit.” He continued to argue with me, finally able to get ahold of me and throw me off to hold me in front of him at arm's length.

Once his phone was in reach, I swiped it. “Ah hah!” With a victorious grin, I held my prize—Benjamin’s phone—in my hand.

“Give me back my phone.” He demanded gruffly with hardened eyes.

“No.” There was no way he would make a grab for it considering how I shoved it deep into my bra, giving me a comical lump that stood out against my small chest. “I’ll take care of it, don’t worry.” I tried my best to give him a reassuring smile, but I probably looked like an awkward fish.

“The last time you told me not to worry I ended up tied in the back of my trunk. Nikolai still hasn’t let me live that down. So, give me my phone back so I can report back to him.” He demanded, holding out a hand to me with a hard but pleading look.

“Don’t worry, he won’t notice anything, don’t worry. I got this.” I hope. I hope I got this. In all reality, I probably don’t. I’m fucking screwed six ways to Sunday, and not the good kind.

Ben’s eyes darted around to scan the area before speaking in a low voice. “Of course he’s going to fucking notice his favorite car missing! What’d you mean he won’t notice!? It’s a fucking car not an apple from the fruit bowl!” I mean, Benjamin had a good point.

Chuckling nervously, I scratched the back of my head as I racked my brain for ideas. “I just have to replace the car.” I said with a dismissive wave of my hand. “And I’ll just keep ‘taking the car’ and not give him a chance to drive it until I get a replacement that’s an exact replica.” Boom. Problem solved.

Sighing, Benjamin shook his head and rubbed his temples with his thumb and forefinger. “As good of an idea as that sounds. That’s fucking impossible. This isn’t some Toyota Camry that we can swing at one of twenty-thousand dealerships to get. You can’t keep taking the damn car for god knows how long, he’s gonna drive it eventually when you’re not using it. There’s no way you’re gonna be able to get another Aston Martin here in the next three hours unless you have a teleportation machine that we don’t know about or a magic genie with wishes.” Benjamin groaned exasperatedly.

Okay, problem not solved. I couldn’t argue with him because his points were valid and true. There was no way I’d be able to get an Aston Martin replacement so soon—not when there wasn’t one for a gazillion of miles. A quick Google search also shot the idea down because the nearest Aston Martin was five states over and not even the right model.

“Okay, so just back to plan A. I’ll handle it.” Somehow. “Let’s just get back home, and I’ll figure something out.” For my sake and Benjamin’s sake, I needed to figure something out. Well, I’d probably be safe at the end of the day, but I didn’t want Benjamin’s ass on the chopping block because I prevented him from doing his job. Nikolai wouldn’t care much about my interference, just that Benjamin didn’t do his job.

“I am telling Nikolai the moment he sets foot through that door.” Unfortunately, Benjamin seemed determined with his intended course of action.

I would have to take care of Benjamin somehow once we got home from the hospital. “Not if I knock you out and throw you in the shed.” I muttered under my breath.

“What?” Benjamin raised an eyebrow at me.

Smiling innocently at him, I waved my hand dismissively at him, “Nothing, just thinking out loud.”

Quickly, I pulled my phone out and called Bao to come take whatever was left of the wreckage away to analyze it all to see if there were any leads to a possible culprit. Benjamin wasn’t happy about it, but there was nothing he could do without his means of communication stuffed in my bra.

Once Bao and his little crew came to clean up the mess, Benjamin and I drove home in silence in his car. But all hopes of Benjamin keeping his trap shut went out the door the moment we entered the house.

“Quit waiting at the door like some eager dog!” I hissed under my breath. It was laughable at how I tried to drag Benjamin away by his arm when he situated himself at the front door like some dog awaiting its master’s return. I probably looked like some small child trying to drag their parent away right now given the size difference between us.

“No. I’m getting ahead of this before I get too deep into shit.” Benjamin deadpanned, not bothering with me one bit as if I was nothing more than an annoying fly unworthy of attention.
