“Go!” I urged, raising the gun and shooting down one of the men. I wasn’t going to wait around to be shot at.

The other three were quick to shoot at us in retaliation. But something was off. We were all out on an open sidewalk, none of us ducking for cover—not like there was any—so the enemy should be having an easy time nailing us. Yet, they weren’t. Their bullets were barely grazing us.

“Give me your spare, I can take down the other and the driver!” Angel shouted from behind me, tugging at the back of my suit jacket.

“No! Get out of here! I am not risking you getting shot!” I rather take the damn bullets myself than see a scratch on her.

“I’m not leaving you here to face off against that many gunmen!” She argued as I felt her hands patting at my body, most likely looking for my spare piece.

Reaching back, I grabbed her hand, stopping her. “Lisichka! For once listen! Get to the damn car, and I’ll catch up! It won’t take me long to dispose of them.” I may be outgunned, but the odds weren’t bad—I’ve been in worse situations.

“But—”

“Angel!” I only had a split second to turn my head to give her my stern look before my attention had to go back to the shooters who had stopped shooting.

Glaring at them, I kept my aim trained on one of them. “Who do you work for and why are you here?” Who dared to try and gun me and Angel down? Who’s the fucker with a death wish?

“Drop the gun and come with us, no one has to get hurt.” One of the men spoke up. “Both of you.”

“You and I both know that’s not happening. So, might as well answer my questions and get a swift death rather than a torturous one once I get my hands on you.” I narrowed my eyes at the one who spoke, my finger pulling against the trigger of my gun to the point where a slight twitch would set it off.

“Angel. Car. Now.” I ordered through gritted teeth, nudging at her with the back of my heel.

A soft shuffle could be heard when Angel started to move, but she stopped dead in her tracks when one of the other men trained his gun on her. “Nah ah, you’re not going anywheresuka. One more step and I will put a bullet in your pretty little legs.”

“Call me a bitch again and I’ll cut your tongue out.” Angel bit back feistily with a glare. “Th?ng kh?n ngu ng?c.” She uttered with a scowl.

“Last warning, put your gun down and come with us. We don’t want to hurt you.” The guy who spoke before spoke again, turning his gun to Angel while he spoke.

“Don’t do it,anh. They’re bluffing.” It was one gamble I was willing to take.

If they wanted to kill us then they could have easily done so by now. They had us outnumbered and outgunned, and they could have easily killed us seconds ago. Clearly they wanted or needed us alive.

Slowly, I released my hand from my gun after flicking the safety on. Holding my hands out in surrender, I glanced over at Angel who looked at me as if I just sprouted a second head.

“I’m going to put my gun down, so don’t shoot.” I spoke in a slow and calm manner, slowly bending down to set my gun on the ground. “I’m going over to my wife, so don’t shoot.”

Carefully, I moved over to Angel with my hands in the air. Once I stood next to her, I glanced down at her. “Take the right, I’ll take the left. The one in the middle spent his chamber already.” The memory was fleeting, but I remember him pulling the trigger a few times only to have nothing come out of it when they shot at us before. Revolvers only held so many bullets. Not the best gun to bring into a fight.

“You are so not getting laid if I get shot by him.” She grumbled, holding her hands up in surrender and following my lead as I led the two of us towards the three men.

“Go!”

The two of us moved in a blink of an eye when we were right in front of the men. Our hands shot out and grabbed at their outstretched ones, disarming them easily with a twist of their wrists and a jab to the elbow.

Just as I recalled, the center gunman had an empty one; the distinct clicking could be clearly heard through our little scuffle with the other two. The third started to panic when I turned my attention to him, discarding his empty gun and making a run for the van.

Unfortunately, before I could go after him, another van pulled up behind us. “Lisichka! Go! The car!” I threw myself at one of the new men who filed out of the second van, tackling him into another with a grunt.

Out of the corner of my eye, I saw Angel hesitate for a split second, her body jerking towards me before she reluctantly turned around and took off towards my car.

As she ran, another man went after her. He wouldn’t get his hands on her though, not while I still breathed.

Getting up, I ran after the man, grabbing the back of his shirt and tackling him to the ground. I kept him pinned to the ground with a knee to his chest before throwing a punch at the man’s face, breaking his nose with a sickening crack.

A high pitched scream made my head shoot up towards Angel who ducked to the side and ran erratically to avoid the bullets that flew her way.

Gritting my teeth, I stilled my anger to keep myself from going on a rampage at the men shooting at her.
