“Where are you going?” Hannah’s voice called from behind me.

I unlocked the chain over the top of the door. “I have shit to do—and didn’t you want me to leave, anyway?”

She looked at me with confusion. “I thought that you were supposed to stay here andprotectme?”

“I didn’t say thatIwas staying. We aren’t together or something. I said I’d make sure to keep an eye on you—never said it would bemyeye.” I chuckled at her brows furrowing and slipped out of the hotel room. “Make sure you lock the chain.”

That’s what you get for being so damn stubborn.

Chapter 9

Hannah

Jerk.

I plopped down on the bed, letting out a heavy sigh. He seriously showed up, bitched at me, fucked me, and then left.

What is there to like about bikers again?

Shaking my head, I decided I needed a distraction from the whole project and reached for the remote. I flipped on the TV, the channel already on Lifetime. I cringed at the cheesy romance that filled the screen but didn’t change the channel. Why not get caught up in a fictionalized perfect man for a while?

I folded my arms across my chest, leaning back against the headboard, my eyes drifting to the disheveled spot where Viper—or Ronny, gave me the best fuck of my life. No one had ever made me feel so...sexy.He made me want to rip my clothes off and leave them that way, our bodies intertwined for hours.

But he left instead.

The tinge of rejection hit like a freight train to my chest, annoying me as I lay my head back. My stomach growled, and I realized that I hadn’t even eaten that day. I reached for my phone, but realized it was still on the floor where he had left it. Rolling my eyes, I went and picked it up, the screen lighting up.

Jeez.

There were multiple messages, mostly from Vinny, wanting to make sure that everything was okay. However, the one from Alex caught my attention.

Call me.

“Ugh,” I groaned, hardly wanting to deal with my ex-boyfriend, who I was currentlyoffwith—not that we were really on anymore. I didn’t know what the hell we were, other than not together. Regardless of how weird our relationship was, I hit the call button beside his name.

It would at least serve as a distraction.

“Hey babe,” Alex answered the phone, the same as he always did. “How’s the outlaw biker thing?”

“Uh, it’s fine, I guess. How’s the business trip?” I asked, trying to remember exactly where he had gone off to.

“It was good. I was hoping that we could meet up for a late lunch today. I’m driving through, and I’d really like to talk to you about us.”

“Whatus?” I demanded, my voice growing sour. “You can’t keep doing this to me, Alex. You said we’re not together as of a couple of months ago—you wanted to see other people.”

“Don’t start this shit on the phone, Hannah,” he snapped. “I just asked to meet up, andthatis when you can overload me with all your feelings.”

I glanced to the hotel door, wondering if Viper would actually make good on his word when it came to keeping an eye on me. “I don’t know.”

“Oh come on, Hannah. You can spare me an hour of your life. My guess is I bet you haven’t even eaten yet. I can just pick up something and come there to your hotel if you want.”

“No,” I said quickly, my eyes going to the messed-up bedding. “I’ll just meet you in town. There’s a café right off Main Street across from a coffee shop. I’ll meet you there in twenty minutes, if that works for you.”

“Yeah, okay. I’ll see you there.”

“Okay, see you.” I hung up the phone, halfway irritated that I had agreed to revisit the same café that I had just run from hours earlier. However, Iwashungry, and a distraction from Viper and all the MC shit would be nice—even if it was dealing with my toxic, wishy-washy ex-boyfriend.

“I’m sure he’s just going to tell me about the women he screwed on his business trip,” I said to myself as I picked up my jeans, sliding them up around my hips, and buttoning them. I had never been the type to have sex outside of a relationship, but Alex had ruined that for me, playing with my heartstrings to get me in bed...
