“They have terrible aim.” She looked over at me, confusion filling her face.

I shook my head. “They havegreataim.”

“No bullets came close to us.”

“Because they weren’t trying to hit us.” I shrugged, leaning back in the seat and running my hands down my face. “But they did destroy my motorcycle, so there’s no point in going back to get that.”

“I’m so sorry, Viper.” Hannah shot me a sympathetic look. “I know that must be tough.”

“I have a whole garage full.” I tried to blow it off, but she didn’t buy it. Hannah placed her hand on my forearm as soon as she pulled out onto the highway, heading back toward town behind Frankie.

“Do you think it was safe to tell him about the hit?” She asked suddenly, turning to look at me for a moment. “Because do youactuallyknow who you can trust anymore?”

I shrugged at her. “I don’t know, but I have to try to build some sort of alliance with people I can trust, or I’ll just wind up in a ditch somewhere.”

She was quiet, her hand lightly gripping the wheel as her eyes were focused on the road. “Hopefully, we can figure it out.”

“Yeah, tell me about it,” I chuckled, grabbing her attention.

“How can youlaughat this?”

“I don’t know, Hannah. I guess if I don’t laugh, I might just fucking cry about it.”

She took a deep breath. “Touché.”

My phone vibrated in my pocket, and I dug it out, seeing a text from the same number that had sent the address.

You should’ve come alone.

Chapter 25

Hannah

I sat at the bar, my eyes focused on the empty glass in front of me. My head was spinning, and sitting in the clubhouse didn’t make me feel any more secure than waiting in the middle of the desert. No matter how cool and collected I appeared on the outside, I was shaken internally...

And it felt like we were on the edge of something terrible.

“Ah, if it isn’t the infamous niece of Vinny Lewis.” A hand landed on my shoulder, feeling much heavier than Viper’s. I turned to see who it was, Tippy staring down at me with a lopsided grin. “You know, we haven’t really gotten ourselves acquainted.”

I forced a smile, turning my body slightly toward him as he slid into the seat beside me. “No, we really haven’t.” As much as I wanted to shut myself out from the world, I couldn’t—that wouldn’t do any good when it came to figuring out who was behind the hit.

“So I think that’s something we should do, considering you’re now an official part of Viper’s life.” He nodded toward Sarah, who grabbed a beer and brought it to him, popping the cap.

“Do you want more?” she asked me, picking up my empty glass.

“Yeah, that’d be great.” I clasped my hands in my lap, turning my attention back to Tippy, who was downing his beer like he was parched. “So...”

“Don’t be so nervous,” he chuckled. “As much as I hated you in the beginning, I guess I can get used to having you around. If Viper actually latches onto a woman, it typically means that it’s a good decision, even if I don’t agree.”

I nodded slowly, not sure how to take what he was saying. “Okay, well, I’m glad that we can coexist in peace.”

“Ah, interesting vocabulary there, Hannah,” he burst into a fit of laughter. “Can definitely tell you’re more educated than half the women in this place—which is why I think youmightbe an asset.”

“Oh?” I raised my eyebrows, already liking where this was going.

It meant more intel for me.

“Yeah, see, there’s a lot that goes on behind closed doors here, and considering your lineage and who you’ve hooked up with, I’m going to bet that you’re a loyal woman, aren’t you?”
