“Gunner!” Viper bellowed, and a firm hand came down on my shoulder.

“Don’t youeverfucking talk about Hal like that!” My voice barely sounded like my own as I came down on him, my fist flying again.

“Fuck!” Viper’s voice sounded distant as Robbie wailed out in pain.

The hand that had landed on my shoulder was suddenly much stronger, tossing me backward. Pain seared through my shoulders as I crashed into the wall, a picture crashing to the floor just to the left of me.

“What the fuck!” Robbie’s voice came out muffled and I glanced up to see his hands covering his face, dripping with blood.

“Get to the truck,” Viper ordered, his eyes on fire as he glared down at me. “Now.”

“Fucking call the cops on your ass,” Robbie muttered as blood dripped to the floor around his feet. “I swear to God you’re a psycho, Gunner.”

“Nah, I might’ve hit you harder if you said something about my woman.” Viper was quick to come to my defense, but I knew that he wouldn’t have seen red the way I did. Viper was more calculated, and I was more to fly off the handle…

And I still felt like I might murder Robbie for what he said to me.

“Fuck you.” Robbie’s voice caught my attention, the pain seeping from his tone.

I shook my head and stood to my feet, noticing the blood running down my hand. I had busted all of my knuckles with that hit. Grimacing to myself, I took one last look at Robbie, and then Viper, who nodded to the truck.

I knew he was going to have to make sure Robbie didn’t go making a fucking mess out of what just happened. Grumbling to myself, I slipped out the door and closed it. I didn’t regret smashing his face in, but I did regret possibly causing one more problem for the club.

He might try to use it as leverage to get what he wants.

That thought was annoying, but at the same time, I doubted that Viper would give in to it. He usually didn’t fall into that kind of bullshit—which is why he was the president, and a guy like me wouldn’t make it.

Too many dead bodies.

I blew out a sharp breath and ripped the truck door open, climbing into the driver’s seat. I had no idea how long it was going to take Viper to talk to Robbie and probably offer some kind of medical care.

This is why we have doctors on the payroll.

Drumming my fingers on the steering wheel, I remembered my phone going off when we got there. Instantly thinking of Hallie, I dug it out, lighting up the screen.

Fuck.

I had three missed calls and one text from her.

Can you call me please?

My finger hovered over her name, but before I could click it, I saw the front door open up. Viper stalked out, looking more pissed off than he had when I left moments before. My eyes followed him around the front of the truck to the passenger door.

“Well?” I asked as he climbed into the truck seat, grabbing for the seatbelt.

“You shouldn’t have fucking done that.”

“You heard what he said.”

“And youknowwe’re gonna have to answer for this. He’s going to the emergency room, for Christ’s sake. We’re just lucky it’s Linley’s shift.”

Fuck.

Chapter 19

Hallie

“Mom, I’m tired of being here,” Iris whined, her shoulders slumped. “This is taking forever.”
