“Right,” I muttered, setting up the kitchen chair.

Axle dropped the duffel bag on the floor, unzipping it and pulling out what we needed. I stared at the ropes and gag, never getting used to the sight. I don’t know if it was the fact that I was capable of not being a total psychopath, but sometimes I just wasn’t a fan of this side of the club—but I’d live and die for my brothers.

And I’dalwayshelp handle shit.

“Let’s do this.” Viper’s voice was low as headlights beamed through the window. My heart thudded a little louder in my chest, as it always did. I headed to the hallway attached to the entryway, opposite Axle.

And then we waited.

The moments that passed felt like years, but it wasn’t that long before the sound of a key in the door filled the silence that had settled in the house. This guy thought he was just coming home on a normal night…

And he had no idea.

The door swung open, and he stepped in, not even hitting the light switch before closing the door back.

He made this way too easy.

Axle gave me the nudge and we pounced on him, a soaked gag clapped over his face before he even realized what was happening. I stripped him of his weapons, tossing them across the floor. Francis went slack against Axle and together we dragged him to the kitchen chair. Viper stepped in and we secured him to the chair.

“He’s the most boring person I’ve ever seen,” Axle chuckled, scrolling through his phone. “Like, this dude talks tono one.”

“That’ll make it easier for us,” Viper shrugged. “If the asshole will ever wake up.”

“Do you want to go lights on or off?” Axle cracked his knuckles, leaning against the kitchen counter.

“Let’s start with the lights off, and then we’ll see what happens. He might be easier to scare than we think.”

I pulled out my phone while we waited, typing out a text to Hal. She hadn’t reached out since I left, and I decided maybe it would make her feel better if she knew I was thinking of her—because I was.

Ialwayswas.

Movie night with Iris tomorrow?

As soon as I hit the send button, Francis stirred, letting out a grunt as he rolled his head around in a circle. He was gagged still, so his words were muffled as he shifted around violently in the chair.

“Yeah, you’re not getting loose,” Axle said in a low voice, his chuckle darkening.

He enjoys this way too much.

Francis’s reply was muffled again.

“Okay, take the gag out,” Viper instructed, motioning to me.

I nodded and stepped forward, ripping it out of his mouth. Francis let out a cry of pain, fighting his restraints all over again.

“What thefuckare you doing?” Francis shouted at all of us.

“Well, see,” I began, letting out a sigh. “You are making thingsverycomplicated for us, and we just need to you back off.”

“Listen, I’ll get you the money I owe you. I told you my plan, and so there’s no fucking need for all these scare tactics.”

What?

I glanced over to Viper an Axle, who looked just as confused as I felt… And so I decided to just roll with it.

“When will you have the money?” I demanded. “We’re tired of waiting.”

“Listen, my partner—my partner is going to have the hundred grand tomorrow. I know he’s gonna have it. Just let me go, and it’ll all be good.”
