“Yeah, that’s what I want,” he growled, the tip of his dick teasing my entrance. I had started taking birth control, and we had only ever been with each other, so…

It was fine.

He shoved his dick inside of me, and I cried out. He was merciless with his fucking, his hips slamming so hard into mine that I struggled to catch my breath as his iron grip held me in place. It was hot and fast, and the sounds coming from the back of my throat hardly felt as though they were mine. His cock was hitting all the right places, and I knew that I was going to cum all over again.

And then I did.

“Oh, shit!” He fucked me harder as my pussy pulsed around him, and before I had even come down from my high, he was pulling out and flipping me around. He picked me straight up off the ground and spun, sitting on the edge of the bed so that I straddled him.

Our lips locked in an intimate kiss as I rode his cock, my arms wrapping around his neck and my fingers tightly wound in his hair. We sucked in ragged breaths during short breaks, and our bodies grew slick with sweat.

“I love you,” Gunner murmured, finally pulling his lips from mine.

“I love you, too,” I nearly whispered, just as his face contorted with a final burst of pleasure, releasing himself inside of me. Our bodies came to a stop, and he wrapped his arms around me, pulling me in tighter to him. I let him hold me for a time before I finally crawled off of him, going for my clothes.

“You’re beautiful, Hal,” he said to me as I tugged my shorts back on. He had already put his jeans back on and was back sitting on the edge of my bed.

“You’re beautiful,” I shot back with a goofy smile. However, he didn’t smile. At all. In fact, he looked… sad. “What’s wrong?”

He was silent for a few moments, his eyes dropping to his hands before shifting back up to mine. “We have to talk, Hal. I can’t go with you to San Francisco.”

Chapter 28

Gunner

I gave it a few days. I gave it as long as I possibly could—but I couldn’t fucking take it anymore. I needed to hear it from Hallie. I needed her to admit that she had lied to me for almost adecade, keeping a secret that shouldneverhavebeen kept.

My motorcycle’s engine roared down the street as I made my way to her house. I knew that she’d be home. It was after work, and I had been keeping a close eye on her ever since I found out that Iris was my daughter, too. Linley wouldn’t come right out and confirm it—probably because she promised Hallie she wouldn’t—but her body language was enough.

And that’s when I had begun my own digging.

It didn’t take much to hack into the system and see that she hadn’t listed a father on the birth certificate, but I can do math… And with that, I knewexactlywhen Iris was conceived—the night we broke up. But had Hallie reached out when she found out she was pregnant, I would’ve fucking figured out a way to be everything that she needed…

At least for our child’s sake.

Anger fueled my throttle hand as I smoked the tires turning down Hallie’s street. I knew her mom had picked up Iris from school, which would mean we could fight this out however we needed to. There was no way inhellI was interested in being with her… But at least she knew that I was going to be aroundforever.

Solely for our daughter.

My bike echoed as I pulled into her driveway, and I didn’t give a shit if it pissed off her neighbors. They’d be hearing a whole lot more of me, and it didn’t bother me a bit if they hated me for it. I killed the engine and shoved the kickstand down, throwing my leg over and thudding across to her front porch. I knew this was going to shock her and you know what?

She fucking deserved it.

My fist collided with the door in a way that reflected the storm inside of my chest, and I didn’t stop knocking until it opened. My eyes locked with her baby blue ones, and I froze.

All the anger I felt suddenly faded to nothing but gruesome heartache.

“What’re you doing here?” Her voice was as soft as her light pink lips, her creamy skin complimented by her light hair, falling in styled waves past her shoulders.

Don’t let her make you weak.

But I still had to swallow the hurt before I could find my words.

“Gunner?” Her brows furrowed. “Are you okay? Do you want to come in?”

Taking a deep breath, I stepped inside, though I wished I wouldn’t have. The face of Iris met me, and for the first time, I saw myself in her. She had my eyes. The shape of my face. My skin tone. It’s allrightthere, staring back at me in a picture.

“Why did you hide her from me?” I ripped my eyes from the little girl to the woman who had lied for nearly ten years.
