There wasn’t enough of the drug that was Emma Mitchell.

MyEmma.

My girl.

Mine.

We’d been teetering on destruction, and in the matter of seconds, she’d yanked me off the edge of the cliff I’d been teetering on. The fear of losing her dissipated as we confessed our affections for each other in those early morning hours.

She was mine.

And I wanted to have her over and over again. The newness of this place we were in, needing to live in it, to gratify the realness of it, over and over.

We had a long way to go, so many things to work through, but she wasn’t running. She was mine. Today, tomorrow, and all the days following, she was mine.

I would make sure of that soon.

My fingers inched closer and closer to the soft place under her breasts. Each of us teetering between responsibility, and giving in to desireagain.

“I think I’m getting close.” Emma said, her voice raspy, and I tried to decipher if she was referring to her work, or the effect my hands were having as they caressed her. “I can’t make sense of it yet. I'm going to need more time.” The crease between her brows deepened as she focused on her work. “Maybe if I can figure this out, I can get out of my contract.” She sounded hopeful.

I stroked her hair. I doubted that. “We can certainly try.”

“I have to try.” She said simply.

Emma continued steadily clacking away at the keyboard, and suddenly she turned over her shoulder and looked at me. “You’ve been my boss this whole time?”

My hand stilled against her belly, and I nodded.

“That issofucked up, you know?”

“I know.” I said apologetically. “I wanted to tell you.”

She went back to typing, and I held her in my lap, watching as she quickly and skillfully worked through the hard drive, cross-referencing the military contracts I’d told her she had free range to dig through now. It was all or nothing. Clearly, both our lives were on the line now.

Multiple assassins had been sent after us. This was life or death. For the moment, I knew we were safe. Emma was safe, as long as I was with her, she’d be safe.

I glanced up at the clock. It was nearly lunchtime, and we’d been love making all night, and lovemaking all morning. We were in desperate need of some sustenance, and I knew Emma’s tendency not to eat when she was stressed.

I nudged her. “Let’s take a break. You need to get something to eat. We’re going to figure this out. You’regoing to figure this out. I know you are.” And I had full confidence in her abilities. She was smart and clever beyond anyone I’d ever worked with, let alone what she knew how to do, especially for her age.

She leaned back against me. “No, I can’t take a break.”

I nuzzled her neck. “You need to eat something before you melt away, especially if you want more of this.” I flexed my throbbing dick against her backside.

She grumbled. “Fine.” I chuckled at what motivators she responded to.

I stood up and placed her back in the chair. “I’ll go pick something up. Any requests?” I asked as I gathered my wallet and keys.

“I don’t really know what’s around here, so I guess you pick.” She went right back to working.

“Ok, I’ll be back in twenty, maybe thirty… don’t go anywhere.” I said, rather seriously. I watched her carefully as she barely registered my words, humming in response. My deepest fear had been losing her, and now that I’d said the words ‘I love you’ out loud, I knew it was more than a fear for me. It would be a death sentence if I lost her. For the time being, she needed to stay inside, or with me, where she’d be safe.

EMMA

I watchedMason walk out the front door, and I heard the door lock click into place. Now alone with my thoughts, a teeny tiny part of me wondered if I believed Mason. The part of me that I’d shoved into the back of my brain last night and this morning reared its ugly head. Part of me wondered if he was playing me, if I was stupid to trust him, and if I was just falling exactly into the trap that he’d laid for me.
