“Are. You. Fucking. Kidding me?”
“Unfortunately, no.”
“Oh… what a fucking bastard!” She snapped into the phone. “I can’t believe he would do that to you… I can’t believetheywould do that to you.”
I sat there, unsure of what to say next while she processed it.
Julie continued, “You know, now that you say it, I can totally see it. I can totally see it. She was totally all over him at the rehearsal dinner. Did you have any idea?”
“No.” My voice wavered as I chewed my lip, trying to suppress the emotion that was starting to bubble up.
“What a fucking jerk.” She breathed. “Addy, I’m so sorry. I’m so, so sorry.”
“Thanks.” I sniffled. My nose started to plug up as I held back tears.
“Well fuck, do you at least get half of his money since you already married him?” She laughed.
“I don’t think it works that way. Besides, it’s not like there would be much to take.”
“Good point.”
“I need to not think about it.”
“Of course. Where are you, anyway?”
“Hawaii.”
“Hawaii?”
I laughed, “Yeah.”
“Good for you. Fuck em. You enjoy that expensive ass honeymoon vacation. You’re the one that paid for it, anyway.”
“True.” I traced the pattern on the pillow in my lap with my finger.
“You could have brought me with you, you know.” She chimed playfully.
I laughed. “If I would have had enough foresight to grab you on my way, I would have loved that.”
“Are you going to be okay by yourself?”
I smiled to myself, looking around Damian’s room. “Yeah, I think I’ll be okay. It’s good to be distracted and get away for a bit.”
I decided it was best I kept my little secret to myself for now. I wasn’t sure what to say about the entire situation, and I certainly didn't know what to say about the whole Damian thing. How could I say something when I didn’t even know what we were doing?
“I should probably go so I can call my mom next before I lose my nerve.”
“Oh shit. You haven’t talked to your parents yet?”
“No, I thought I’d practice with you first.”
“Good call. Listen Addy, I love you, and you’re going to get through this. You’re going to find someone who’s a million times better. I promise you. You’re such a catch, and Jack is an absolute moron, and he’s going to regret this when he realizes what he’s done. And as for Courtney, all I can say is, bye bitch.”
“Thanks, I’ll talk to you soon, okay?”
“Alright, love you. Bye.
“Bye.”
