ADDISON

“Yes,we’ll need three hundred stems each of the garden roses, the dahlias, and the heather, along with the Myrtle branches and eucalyptus. In addition to my previous order.”

“Great, we’ll get those over to you first thing in the morning.” The delivery woman answered.

“Fantastic, thank you so much.”

I hung up the phone and smiled to myself as I looked at Damian working diligently in his office. It was a kind thing he did, arranging for me to handle the company florals. It certainly wouldn’t have normally fallen under my job responsibilities, but I was thrilled to do it. And I was working on the biggest budget I’d ever had. Plus, I was thrilled to be getting a raise; though I knew it was probably taking away from my current responsibilities, if anything.

As I walked into the corner conference room, I was hit with a wall of fresh florals in the air. It was delightful, and a smell I missed being around every day. While Damian may have created this additional responsibility in an effort to mend the bridge between us in some way, I was determined to do it well, regardless. Besides, if I created some show stopper pieces, I might even be able to double dip and get some high end clients that I could work for on the side if everything went my way.

I was still a bit at odds with Damian. We hadn’t seemed to smooth things over completely, and I had successfully kept him from noticing my missing bracelet. I’d been wearing long sleeve shirts or cardigans that covered the evidence. I didn’t know if he’d be pissed, but I didn’t want to find out. For now, I was grateful we had fallen into a sort of routine, even if I was still a little pissed at him for everything.

I popped my headphones in and went to work, quickly assembling and arranging the flowers I had. As I finished each one, I lined up each completed vase along the wall next to the stairwell. When I was finished assembling them, I was going to carry them up the stairwell and line them up at the top so they would be easy to set up tomorrow on the roof for the event.

Before I knew it, it was way after hours, and I was still going strong. I wanted to get as many done this evening as I could, so that I wouldn’t be overwhelmed when the last part of the delivery arrived tomorrow.

Suddenly, I heard Damian's rich deep voice behind me. “How’s it going?”

“Shit.” I whirled around and ripped my headphones out. “You startled me. How long have you been there?”

“Long enough.”

“You should come up to the roof, and I’ll show you.”

“No, that’s alright, I leave it in your capable hands.”

I stepped outside the conference room and pulled the door to the stairwell open. “It will only take a minute.”

“I said I was fine.” He snapped.

I cocked my head, looking at him, and then it dawned on me. There was a reason he didn’t want to go up to the roof.

“Are you afraid of heights?”

“Why would you say that?”

“I’m right, aren’t I?”

“I’m not afraid of heights, I just don’t love being on the highest point of a building, that’s all.”

“Oh, Damian, why didn’t you say something? I can change the location?”

“It’s fine.”

“How fine is it going to be when you’re trying to charm all those investors and you’re about to shit yourself?” I laughed.

“I said it was fine, Addison.”

“If you say so.” I said in a sing-song voice. I turned to go back into the conference room.

“Are you taking these up tonight?”

“Yeah, but I can do it.”

“These look heavy.”
