“They are.”

“Then I can help you take them up.”

“I said I don’t need your help, Damian.” I got a bit irritated and yanked the big vase out of his hands. “I have a system, and you’re screwing it up.” I set the vase down in front of the stairwell door, propping it open.

“Go do CEO things.” I tried to shoo him away.

“Maybe I don’t want to do CEO things.” He plucked a loose flower out of the gallon bucket on the ground. He smelled it before walking over and twirling it in my face. I rolled my eyes and took the flower from him, throwing it back into the water bucket.

Suddenly, his smile faded, and it was replaced with a scowl. He grabbed my wrist. “Where the fuck is your bracelet?”

I caught my breath. I had completely forgotten about it, and he had caught me red-handed. I didn’t know what to say.

“I asked you a question, Addison.” His hand closed around my wrist tighter, as he pulled me towards him and into his chest. His jaw flexed. “Answer me.”

“I–” My heart was pounding in my ears, and I didn’t know if I should admit what I’d done, or if I should lie. I decided to tell half the truth. “I had it taken off.” I whispered.

“I can see that.” He growled. “Why the fuck aren’t you wearing it?”

“I don’t have it anymore.” I managed to squeak out.

“Where is it?”

“I sold it.” I admitted, looking down. I couldn’t bear to look at him.

When I looked back up, his eyes were burning through me.

“I hope you got a good fucking deal, then.” He growled into my ear before pulling back. “Did you?”

“I– Damian–”

“Did you?” He roared.

I could feel the tears welling up in my eyes, and I tried to fight them back. “I think so.”

“You think, or you know Addison?”

I felt a tear stream down my face. I was sure I had taken a quick low-ball offer. I just wasn’t sure how low it actually was. “I don’t know.”

“How much?”

“Damian.”

“How much?” He growled.

I hung my head. He had both my wrists in a death grip. He released one and took my chin, tilting it up. “Look at me Addison.” I flicked my eyes up at his cold, disappointed eyes. “Answer me.”

“Ten.” I whispered.

He erupted into laughter, letting go of me, and I stumbled back into the workbench.

“Is that all?”

I searched his face, nodding. “Was that a bad deal?” I whispered, already knowing the answer.

He narrowed his eyes and leaned into my ear. “You could have gotten triple that.” He backed up, putting his hands on top of the door frame, and leaned forward. Suddenly, he looked at me. “I hope it was worth it.”

I stared at him, not knowing what to say.
