“And?”

“She deserves the world, you know.”

Sean nodded. “Yeah and I can give her more of a life than you ever could.”

He was right.

“You have to know if you hurt her, I will come for you.”

“She doesn’t need you to protect her,” Sean said. “She’s got me for that now.”

It was a challenge. I knew it, but I wasn’t going to cut him down in his prime. I did need someone to watch over her and if she wanted to be away from my family business, then I had to walk away.

“You don’t want to make an enemy of me, Sean.”

“Are you threatening me?” Sean asked, a smirk on his face. He was looking for a fight. He wanted Sloane to hate me and a slug to her new man’s face would certainly do it.

“Yeah, I am. If I see that woman in tears, I’ll be coming for you.”

I dropped the butt of my cigarette on the ground and got into my car as he made his way back over to the yard. I revved my car and sped off, to get his challenge out of my mind. I have never wanted to beat someone’s ass so bad in my life and I was fighting every urge in my body to turn around and go to do that but I didn’t want to hurt Sloane.

I never wanted to hurt that woman again.

She had my heart, and I knew it.

There would never be another woman to replace her.

I pulled into the row of shops near the bay, mostly so I didn’t turn around, but I knew I’d come here for a reason, even if I hadn’t actively been thinking about it.

Getting out of the car, I walked into the tattoo shop and looked around. Two burly looking men, fully tatted, looked up at me. From the look on their faces, they knew who I was.

“Can I help you?”

The question came from a woman. I looked over to see a heavily tattooed woman making her way behind the counter.

“Sure, do you work here?”

“Yeah, I own this place.”

“I need a tatt.”

“Sure, did you know what you want?” she asked. I could tell by the way she was leaning over to show me her full cleavage and the lilt in her voice that she wanted me. I should be flattered, she was attractive, but I was hellbent on getting my head around the fact that Sloane had moved on and I needed to do it too.

“It’s a name.”

“Your girlfriend?” she asked, looking even more sultry.

“My ex.”

“We don’t tend to do those,” she said. “Because we don’t want you to come back and be pissed about it later.”

“I’ll sign whatever you want. I just need it done.”

She nodded. “Sure. No need to sign anything. Come on over, the last chair.”

I moved past the half closed curtain and past the two guys getting their legs tatted. The woman came over and got her machine ready. I pulled my shirt off and looked for a spot to put the name.

“Wow,” she gasped as she turned back to me. “That tattoo is intense.”
