The blood drains from my face so fast, it leaves me light-headed. I grab onto Elio’s thigh to keep myself upright, but the shocking news has my mind reeling. Suddenly my tiredness and extra bloating make a lot more sense.
Holy shit.
“Holy shit,” Azarius says, echoing my thoughts and throwing his arms around me. “I’m going to be a dad. This is amazing!”
“Who says it’s yours, dumbass?” Elio asks with a snort. “Just assuming your swimmers are the strongest, now?”
“No.” Azarius’ voice goes flat. “But regardless of who the father is, Devyn is my mate so it’s my baby. He or she will have three dads and a mom.”
Three dads.
I don’t know what about that sentiment strikes a chord in my chest, but suddenly my eyes are filled with tears. They spill down my cheeks, dropping onto Azarius’ forearm, but I don’t bother to wipe them away.
I’ve never considered having kids, but now that it’s a reality, I don’t know how I’ve ever imagined anything else. I have everything I’ve ever wanted, a life beyond my wildest dreams, and now our little family is gaining another member.Another monster.
“Well, I’ll be damned,” Rafe says, stepping up to the side of the couch and staring down at me with the softest expression I’ve ever seen on his face. “Just like that, there’s an heir.”
An heir.
It dawns on me at his words that our baby will inherit this entire hemisphere of the monster realm. Everything we fought so hard to protect, to save, from the Malevolent demons, will belong to them. All our hard work has turned into an impossibly bright future, and I can’t wait to witness it all with my mates by my side.
