Then we can worry about who’s filling which of her holes.

“If you two are done, there are more important matters at hand,” I change the subject, clearing my throat again. It’s gotten uncomfortably hot in the room over the last few seconds, and I’m desperate for a distraction.

“Right,” Az says, pulling away from Devyn and marching over to snatch up the nesda roots. “Let’s crush these babies up and get a move on.”

He works them in a bowl with a mortar, scrunching his nose as the foul odor spills out into the room, sticking to all the surfaces around us, but he doesn’t complain. He crushes them until they’re a thick, vomit-inducing paste and shoves the bowl in my direction.

“What the—”

“I painted her last time,” he says, taking a hurried step back. “It’s your turn.”

I stare down at the bowl in my hands with a grimace, dreading dipping my fingers into the mixture but eager to have my hands on Devyn’s body after seeing her and Azarius together. Besides, since I’ll be carrying her in the air again, I won’t escape the stench regardless. Might as well get used to it now.

“Paint me like one of your French girls,” Devyn says with a giggle, although I’m not sure what she means. It must be a human joke.

Swallowing down the acid creeping up my throat, I scoop out some of the nesda pulp and carefully begin painting my way down Devyn’s exposed skin. As much as I want to be scarce with the application, I know that would only hurt us in the long run. The stronger the scent of nesda, the less likely anyone is to pick up on Devyn’s human aroma hovering underneath it.

“Not wearing jeans, I see,” I joke when I’m squatted before her, letting my gaze slowly climb up her form. If memory serves me correctly, she doesn’t own any underwear either, so there’s a good chance she’s not wearing anything underneath the dress.

She scrunches her nose. “I’m not ruining them with that nasty shit.”

A laugh makes its way past my lips, and I hear Azarius chuckle behind my back.

I touch her neck, her arms, and let my fingers dance up her thighs beneath the end of the dress. If I stopped breathing and forgot about what we were doing, I might be tempted to rip her clothes off and take her here so Azarius could watch me pleasure her, but the stink floating around us kills my potential boner.

“All done,” I say when her scent is completely masked. I shove the bowl back at Azarius, who fumbles it and nearly spills it on himself, and I laugh.

“Ass,” he grumbles.

“Where’s your robe from last time?” I ask Devyn, searching the room and finding it tossed over the back of a lounge chair by the window. “Grab it and let’s go. We’ve wasted enough time.”

And you smell disgusting. But I’m not dumb enough to voice my thoughts out loud.

Once we’re outside in the open, it won’t be nearly so bad, and I wonder why we didn’t do this shit outside to begin with.

Oh, right.Azarius said it would be better in here. I’m not listening to his dumb ass ideas anymore.

As we emerge from the mansion into the warm morning air, Devyn slips on the robe and pulls up the hood, concealing herself completely. Aside from her size, there’s nothing to give her away as being human. She could pass for a child in our realm.

“Everyone knows what we’re doing?” I ask, looking between the two of them. “Just like last time and we’ll reconvene outside of Havec.”

Azarius nods. “Yeah, boss. We got it.”

I roll my eyes at him again and take a step toward Devyn. She looks up, peering at me from beneath her hood, and I note a delicious smile on her face. It’s enough to make me forget everything for a split second. Our mission, Azarius, the war… it all fades away, and we’re alone for a moment.

I’m tempted to lean down and catch her lips with mine, to shove my tongue into her mouth and taste her, despite the wretched nesda notes hovering around her.

But then Azarius snaps me out of my daze.

“Let’s go then,” he huffs, and turns to strut toward the tree line. He’s wearing a pair of shorts and has his backpack over his shoulders. “At this rate I’ll beat you there.”

Without another word, he disappears into the trees and leaves me alone with Devyn.

“He’d never beat us there.” I chuckle, shaking my head. “Are you ready, Princess?”

She nods. “Not excited for the height, but ready to see something other than this place.”

I pull my shirt off, flexing a little as I tuck it into my own bag. Swinging her up into my arms, I clutch her tightly against my chest, admiring the way she fits there perfectly. I set my wings free, stretching them out as far as they’ll go until tingles tumble down my spine. It feels incredible to have them out.
