Amy, her nurse practitioner, poked her head around the doorway to Olivia’s office on Thursday.

“We’re going to grab a drink if you want to come.”

She really didn’t, but Sawyer was staying with Maverick for the first time, and she knew she was going to be a wreck all night at home by herself. Going out with the girls seemed a better alternative to pacing her halls.

Shutting her computer down, she rolled her chair from her desk.

“Sure, that sounds fun.”

“Julie is driving so we can leave our cars in the hospital garage and not have to worry about getting them tomorrow since they’ll already be at work. That way we just have to Uber home tonight and to work tomorrow.”

“You guys think of everything,” Olivia teased with a smile as she pulled her purse and coat from her closet.

She sat in the back of her office manager’s minivan and listened while the nurses and staff caught her up on three months of gossip.

It wasn’t until the van stopped that she noticed where they were.

Oh no.

“You guys like Flannigan’s?”

“Oh yeah,” Amy answered. “They have the best fries, and their Thursday night drink specials are cheap. Plus, their bartenders are hot.”

Olivia put her game face on. “Can’t argue with that logic.”

Maybe she could hide in a corner booth and no one she knew would recognize her.

There was no way she could be that lucky, because who approached their table? None other than Derrick himself.

She should have known—a table full of beautiful women? Of course he was going to wait on them.

“Ladies,” he said with his famous Mitchell smile. “What are you celebrating tonight?”

The women giggled, and Julie replied, “Nothing, we’re just getting off of work.”

Janice added, “And Flannigan’s has the best fries and drink specials.”

Olivia could tell that was exactly what Derrick wanted to hear.

Meanwhile, Amy twirled her hair and corrected her friends. “Actually, we are celebrating!” She pointed directly at Olivia. “Dr. Lacroix has finally returned to work after three months of maternity leave.”

Shit. Shit. Shit.

So much for staying invisible.

Derrick’s smile fell when they locked eyes, and he lifted his chin in greeting. “Olivia.”

She mirrored the gesture. “Derrick.”

“You know Dr. Lacroix?” Amy asked.

Derrick kept his eyes trained on Olivia. “She’s my sister-in-law.” He arrogantly raised his eyebrows. “Where’s Sawyer?”

The asshole knew damn well where her son was.

“Mav has him tonight.”

Meanwhile, she felt her staff’s eyes lobbing back and forth between them.
