Fuck, her tits are gorgeous.

“I don’t need to be taken care of.”

“The fact that you think that only proves my point. Of course you do. You just had my baby two days ago.”

She tried to interject. “Women all over the wor—"

“Woman, would you stop being so damn stubborn and just accept my help already?”

Shaking her head, she whispered, “I can’t.”

He cocked his head. “Give the fictitious boyfriend a rest, would you?”

“It’s not that.”

“What is it, then? Relying on people doesn’t mean you’re weak, Olivia. When you rely on the right people, it shows you’re smart.”

Maverick could tell she was sizing him up, as if trying to determine if he was one of the ‘right’ people.

“Let me give you a hint, darlin’. I’m someone you want on your side.”

Chapter Eighteen

Olivia

She didn’t go back to her house for several days. Maverick made her take it easy and went out of his way to wait on her.

He made her feel like a princess.

Which made her uncomfortable as hell. She was the person who took care of others, not the other way around.

On the fourth day, she insisted she wanted to go to her house, and he lightened up with his bedrest insistence.

As she got Sawyer dressed in one of the cute outfits Maverick’s brothers had bought, Maverick walked into the bedroom.

“You’re not planning on taking the baby.”

It wasn’t a question.

“Well, he’s a little young to be left alone, don’t you think?” she sassed back.

He shook his head. “I’ll be here.”

“So how am I supposed to get to my house? I don’t have a car here.”

“I have a few cars you can choose from, Olivia.”

“I’d likemycar.

She didn’t like relying on him so much—having her own transportation was a good start to reestablishing her independence. And moving back into her home.

When he didn’t say anything, she grumbled, “I’ll just call an Uber.”

He gave her an exasperated look as he punched buttons on his phone. She heard his phone alert with a text seconds later.

“Nick will be by in thirty minutes to take you. Can you wait?

Waiting half an hour was not a hardship, so she wasn’t sure why she sighed and said, “I guess,” like a brat.
