Chapter Nineteen

Olivia

Whoa, hussy. Quit flirting. That’s what got you in trouble in the first place.

But she wouldn’t trade her son for anything and had no regrets about that night. Even now, with Maverick insisting he be completely involved or he’d sue for full custody.

She glanced down at the paper in the folder. Maybe this was the answer she’d been looking for. He was willing to put in writing that he’d give her full custody if he divorced her. That seemed easy enough.

“So, is there anything in here about sex between us?”

The corner of Maverick’s mouth tipped up. “Why, do you want there to be?”

“No!”

Okay, that might be a lie. She needed to reign her hormones in. Her vagina was in no condition for sex, and sleeping with him could complicate the plan that was forming in her head.

He cocked his head. “So, what do you mean?”

“Does it specify we have to have sex X number of times a week or something?”

He chuckled as he shook his head. “No. There’s nothing in there that requires us to have sex. Just no sex with other people.”

“So we could be married eighteen years and have a sexless marriage?”

That prospect seemed downright depressing. Especially with the fidelity clause. She liked her battery-operated boyfriend just fine, but the thought of that being heronlyoutlet for getting off didn’t appeal to her in the least.

“Theoretically. Although, I think I’d be a pretty lousy husband if I let your needs go unattended for a fraction of that long.”

She remembered how well he had attended to her needs over nine months ago.

“So youareplanning on having a physical relationship.”

“I’m notplanningon anything. I just don’t see the point of ruling it out, do you?”

“The point is, sex only complicates things—obviously. If I’m going to even consider marrying you that needs to be made clear up front.”

His smile was placating. “How about we not put anything in writing and just have a gentleman’s agreement that there will be no sex between us unless you decide otherwise?”

“Fine. But I’m not going to change my mind.”

He didn’t flinch. “Okay,” he said dismissively, like it didn’t matter to him one way or another. “So, Christmas Eve, then? How many people would you like to invite?”

Was she really going to agree to this?

“Well, first of all, we’re not doing anything here. I’m not allowing a slew of germ-infested people anywhere near my son who hasn’t gotten any of his shots yet.”

“Good point. I hadn’t thought about that. What about the country club?”

She wrinkled her nose. “Not if you want to do it this Christmas Eve. I’m sure they’re booked and have been for months.

They sat thinking quietly, until finally she suggested, “How about Flannigan’s?”

It was his turn to wrinkle his nose. “You want to get married there?”

“Why not? It’s where we met. Would Derrick be willing to close that night? I know Christmas Eve can be a busy night for some bars.”

He thought about it for a minute, then shook his head. “I’m not marrying you in a bar.”
