“We could just go to the courthouse.”

“I’m not marrying you at the courthouse. either. How about this? We get married here, but keep Sawyer in the bedroom wing—away from everyone, and have professional cleaners come in overnight.”

“On Christmas Day?”

“Money talks, Olivia.”

“If you can arrange that, I’m on board.”

Maverick

The decorators came and Olivia was the perfect project manager, choosing decorations and directing the workers, all with Sawyer strapped to her front in a baby sling.

It was a sight to see. He had no doubt she was a force to be reckoned with.

Which was why he was surprised that she had acquiesced so easily to signing the prenup and agreeing to marry him Christmas Eve. He’d expected her to come back from her lawyer’s office with all kinds of demands. The only thing that she asked to be changed was two million a year, instead of one, and Maverick suspected that was her attorney’s doing. He’d needed to suggestsomethingin order to justify his fees.

Maverick easily signed off on that. He didn’t give a shit about the money and would have paid her more if she’d asked.

Now his house was filled with silver and blue bulbs, bells, and wreaths. Garland was strung along the banister, and there were three giant Christmas trees throughout.

Three.

One in the foyer, one in the living room, and one in front of the floor-to-ceiling window in the great room where they were going to get married.

Married.

He stopped to think about that. If you would’ve asked him at Thanksgiving if he’d be married by Christmas, he would have doubled over laughing. Of course, he would have done the same if he’d been asked about having a baby.

Yet here he was.

And he was so in love with that little guy, he worried his heart might burst from his chest when he looked at him.

Then there was his future wife.

That relationship was going to be trickier. She was fiercely independent, which he found sexy as hell. Unfortunately, right now she viewed him as the enemy.

Granted, that was his own doing. If he would have just agreed to a custody arrangement, she might not hate him now.

But fuck that. He was going to be there for all his son’s firsts this time. He’d been given another chance to do it right and he wasn’t going to squander it.

Olivia would come around. Meanwhile, her alleged boyfriend had not—which was for the best, for everyone.

Chapter Twenty

Olivia

“You’re doing what?!” her twin roared into the phone.

“I’m getting married, Evan.”

“Over my dead body. I thought he’d given up with that nonsense.”

Her family had been to Maverick’s multiple times to visit Sawyer. Each time, Maverick had charmed her parents when they came and clashed with Evan when he showed up.

Or should she say, Evan clashed with Maverick. Mav was always the consummate host, and her brother was a boorish guest. Pete didn’t talk about marrying Olivia because that seemed to set her brother off, and he bent over backwards to make Evan feel welcome. Her brother, on the other hand, would ask in front of Maverick when she was moving back to her place, or if she needed any help watching Sawyer when she went back to work—knowing full-well that Maverick planned on being a stay-at-home dad.
