“Look at me, another thing that I’m doing that’s not old.” I kissed her quickly again.

She pressed her palms against my chest, pushing me away lightly. “You’re going to be a gentleman about this, right?”

I raised a brow.

“Weston,” she once again cautioned me with a simple word.

“I never said I was a gentleman,” I growled, and she squeaked, tapping her lips with her fingers before looking away. I smiled, chuckling silently. Of course I was going to be one, mostly. Certainly enough of one to not be caught by Butch again, but otherwise….

Tenley shook her head, slipping out from my grasp, and walked to the truck that was still hooked to the trailer. “You know, I thought you were pretty smart, so why was it that a teenager thought of driving this truck and not you?” she shot at me, lifting a brow.

I jumped up onto the flatbed and worked to undo the hitch.

“If you recall correctly, I was a little wet and frozen at the time. Plus, there was this certain woman with me who makes my brain a little fuzzy sometimes.” I glanced up at her as she leaned against the edge. “Though, this means you can just use my brush at my house. We’ve already burned a lot of alone time as is.”

Her brows twitched and she looked away, almost put out. So I was right. There was another reason why she wanted to go to her house. I’d had my suspicions for a bit now.

“Oh, um, well with all the time...” She tucked some hair behind her ear, chewing on her bottom lip for a moment. “Yeah, sure. That would work,” she finished.

“What’s at your house that you need to get, darling?” I bluntly asked, jumping down from the bed and finishing unhitching the trailer. Her mouth fell open as she stared at me. Walking to the passenger door, I pulled it open and waited for her. Both for an answer and for her to hop inside.

“How do you just always know? It’s kind of annoying,” she grumbled, dragging her feet across the snow. Tenley jumped inside, plopping down on the worn and cracked leather. I shut the door after her and hurried around the front, joining her on the driver’s side.

I merely smiled and winked.

“It’s your Christmas present,” she muttered beneath her breath as I snatched the key from the visor and turned the engine over.

“Why don’t you bring it tomorrow when you come to help with preparations? Otherwise, we really won’t have much time alone tonight, and I do have a few things planned,” I replied, and she sighed.

“You ruined the surprise.” She folded her arms.

“It’s Christmas. A present around this time of year isn’t really surprising.” I slowly edged the truck onto the road and began to drive home. Majority of the town was still at the festival, which would make this evening traveling quite quick. Hopefully leaving enough time for at least a hot cider and some snuggling before Keaton needed me to put up the lights.

“But you didn’t know I was getting you one!”

“Am I not courting you?”

“Well, yes?”

“Then, while not expected, even I know exchanging gifts at Christmas with your significant other is normal.” I glanced her way, a subtle smile on my face and she huffed, annoyed.

“Quit being right all the time.”

“Someone has to be.”

“Just because we’re dating now, doesn't mean you getto be rude!”

“Says the girl who once called me to argue when I offered to pick her up.” I lifted my brow. “To keep her safe.”

She waved a hand, dismissing me. “Don’t let it go to your head. Doc changed my tire for me later, anyway.”

I furrowed my brows. “What?” It hadn’t occurred to me that during everything going on, she might’ve assumed it wasn’t me who took care of her donut. “Doc didn’t get it changed for you,” I stated, and she looked my way, surprised.

“He came and got my keys and then later returned with a new tire on my car.” Tenley watched me with big, curious eyes.

“Yes, but he didn’t actually take care of it,” I stated again.

She studied me for a moment and then her eyes widened. “You did it?” she exclaimed, and I nodded. “But, why didn’t you—” she cut herself off. “Oh, right. We weren’t exactly talking at the moment.”
