I chuckled and shoved my hands in my pockets. “Yes you do.”

“But I don’t even know how to ride a horse.” She giggled, spinning.

“Yet. You don’t know how to ride yet,” I said, and she faced me.

“Aren’t these expensive?”

I shrugged my shoulders. “Worth every penny.” Besides, I’m not exactly hurting for money.

“I can’t believe it!” she squealed again and waltzed around the room. She posed a couple times before sliding back my way and sighing. I knew that sound.

“We should probably go join the party,” I quietly muttered, a bit let down as she lifted the hat from her head and placed it carefully back in the box. It didn’t really fit her outfit today, but I could see the small disappointment that she wouldn’t get to wear it right now coating her face.

“Yeah. We should,” she mumbled, closing the lid, and then lifted her eyes to mine. “When are you going to talk to your mom?”

I shrugged my shoulders. “Not exactly at the top of my list of priorities right now.”

“What is?” she asked, walking toward me.

I wrapped my arms around her waist as she tipped onto her toes and threw her hands around my neck. Pecking her lips, I smiled. “You are.”

“Even over work?” she sarcastically gasped, and I rolled my eyes.

“Cassidy can handle more of that right now.”

She giggled and kissed me again. “Can we make pancakes before we go?”

“I’m supposed to be on donut duty actually.” I grimaced, and she widened her eyes.

“You guys make homemade donuts for the Christmas Eve Party?”

I nodded, though normally I just ate the leftovers in the evening, I’d been assigned to man the donut station for the first bit this year. Apparently, that was the least likely thing I’d screw up for my first time in attendance.

“Then we better go. I get to be your taste tester.” She clapped her hands and skipped out of the bedroom.

Chapter 24

**TENLEY**

He definitely had returned to his more reserved, methodical self. All these people around, laughing and giggling, looking at him. I leaned against the table behind him as he dipped another few circles of dough into the bubbling oil. Soft music played as his family’s friends twirled around on the ice. Frozen water that I’d plunged through a month ago.

“You can go join, you know that right?” He lifted a brow, and crossed his arms. Turning around he looked at me.

“No, thank you.” I shook my head.

“How many times do I have to tell you that I went over every inch of that thing, throwing a giant rock and stomping on every part of that ice to make sure it was good to go?” He pushed away from the hot liquid and grabbed a donut from the pile off to the side. Kids zoomed by snatching pastries from it before cruising off without another word.

“Doesn’t matter.” I adjusted the finger of the cream gloves he’d found for me.

“Here.” He offered the donut and I grinned, giddy.

“Wait a second,” I paused, and narrowed my gaze. “Are you trying to bribe me with more sweets?”

He chuckled. “No, I’m trying to make sure you’re good and full before we disappear.” He winked.

I slid the donut from his hand and took a bite, sugar beads coating my lips. Weston leaned forward and quickly kissed me before I had a chance to lick them off. His tongue ran across my mouth, catching the remaining specks, and I giggled.

Taking another bite, he did the same thing. “I thought the chef wasn’t allowed to have a donut until everyone else did?” I wiggled my brows as he placed his hands against the table on either side of me.
