Coming together with the greatest of ease,

Lost to the whims of fate,

Their hearts, their hearts will always wait.

Dance on the wind,

Lest we forget what is right,

Dance on the wind,

We side, we side, with the light,

Dance on the wind,

For tomorrow, tomorrow we fight.

Applause broke out,but it faded into the background, a muffled roar as Kellen strode forward. The knot that had been sitting in her chest all day broke open when Kellen leapt onto the stage and lifted her into his arms. Without another word, he jumped off the stage and strode into a tunnel, leaving the cheering crowd behind him. It was so unlike him to manhandle her in such a way that Raven was torn between shock and arousal. Her heart fluttered in her chest as he carried her as though she weighed nothing, her guitar caught awkwardly between them. She studied the sharp edges of his face, set in hard lines. His expression was hard to read. Was he angry with her?

Kellen kicked his door open, causing Raven to gasp in his arms, and go on alert. This was not a man who had been charmed by her song. Perhaps her music had been wrong for his people? The door shut behind them and Kellen whisked a hand out, lighting the room with magick, and walked forward to drop her onto his bed. She shrank back, certain now that he was angry with her, and quickly divested herself of her guitar. Laying it next to her on the mattress, she met his eyes.

“Not a fan, eh?” Raven affected lightness.

“Where did you learn that song?” Kellen bit each word out, like they were being torn from his body, and she blanched.

“Learn? I didn’t learn it. That’smysong.”

“It is not your song,” Kellen turned to her, his eyes heated. “I’ll ask you once more. Who taught you that song?”

“Nobody…I…Kellen.” Raven rose, feeling at a disadvantage while seated, and anger licked tendrils at her core. “That’s my song. I wrote it. Well, it comes to me in my dreams. I just…pulled it from my mind.”

“In your dreams. I thought you didn’t dream, Raven.”

“I mean, not metaphorically speaking when I’m thinking about my future. But in my sleep? Yes, I dream. Why are you so upset, Kellen? Please tell me, so I know what I did wrong.” It wasn’t in Raven’s nature to ask nicely, not when faced with someone who appeared to be this angry with her, but she needed to understand more clearly what she was dealing with here.

“It’s my heartsong, Raven.” Kellen looked at her, and waited, as though she was supposed to know what the hell that meant. When she just shook her head at him in confusion, he leaned forward so that their faces were inches apart.

“You’re my fated mate.”

Kellen

When she’d startedto sing, Kellen’s heart had broken open, a shimmering lovely liquid energy pouring through him, and he couldn’t think, couldn’t speak. All he could focus on was getting to her. It didn’t matter to him what it looked like to his people or what his father thought. He’d just needed to get to her.

Her.

Raven.

His fated mate.

He’d heard talk of what this bond could do to a Fae. For some, it almost drove them to the brink of madness. He’d always found that suspect, but now, having heard his heartsong, Kellen understood.

He’d die for her.

He’d fight for her.

He’d do anything for her.
