So long as she stayed by his side. He needed her in this moment as much as he needed water to live, and it took every last inch of his willpower not to push her back onto the bed and claim her over and over until she understood in every cell of her being that she was his.

And he was hers.

Always. Forever on.

Whatever it took.

This bond, this knowing, was so instantaneous that even Kellen was shocked by the emotions that rampaged through him.

“Listen,” Raven said, holding her hands in the air, panic skittering across her face. “I get it. It’s an emotional night, a moving song, tomorrow we ride into the unknown. That’s all this is, Kellen. Our emotions are running high because of what we face tomorrow. It’s making us want more…think…” Raven cut herself off and waved a hand helplessly.

“Think what, Raven?” Kellen prowled closer, itching to touch her. He wondered if she knew what she’d revealed to him. Even though she might not be ready to admit it, she felt something for him.

“Just…you know. Sexy thoughts. And stuff.” Raven stumbled over her words, a faint flush crossing her lovely skin.

“Are you having sexy thoughts about me then, darling?” Kellen reached up and ran a thumb lightly across her lower lip, his focus narrowing as her eyes widened at his touch. Her breath shuddered.

“I mean, yes. But it’s just normal. We kissed. And you know, cuddled. And big fights, battles, emotions running high. Really, it’s just a chemical response. Adrenaline. All that,” Raven babbled, and Kellen lowered his head until his lips hovered close to hers.

“Tell me, nightbird, how you can sing of fate and love but not believe it for yourself?”

“Oh,” Raven said, stricken, her eyes searching his. “It’s just a song, Kellen.”

“Words matter.”

“It’s…weaving a tale. A moment. That’s all…” Raven trailed off when Kellen made a small noise with his mouth.

“You insult us both.”

“Kellen. I think you’re just caught up in—”

Raven gasped.

Gripping her waist, Kellen lifted her and rolled with her onto the bed so that she straddled him.I’m out of patience now. I’ve found my mate.As much as he wanted to cover her, to claim her, Kellen still understood that Raven needed to retain some semblance of control. She gaped down at him, surprise wreathing her face, as her slender legs straddled his thighs. Already he was achingly hard for her, and he lifted his hips, moving beneath her, and watched her eyes widen in shock.

“Does this feel like I’m just caught up in the moment?”

“Possibly?” Raven squeaked as Kellen began to move, undulating his hips beneath her, rubbing himself against the tender spot between her thighs. “It’s hard to say, really.”

“Will you give yourself to me, Raven darling? On this night, this eve of our greatest battle, will you let me have you?” Kellen was beyond sweet words, his desire so desperate that he just needed to be buried deep inside her. If she wasn’t ready to accept that she was his fated mate, that was fine. He’d take his time convincing her. But for now, he was fairly certain he’d die if he didn’t ride to battle with the taste of her on his lips.

“I…oh…” Raven’s mouth rounded as he gripped her hips, holding her tight at his waist as he moved between her legs. “Kellen…I…”

“Tell me,” Kellen bit out, barely able to restrain himself, as he waited for her to say whatever thoughts weighed her down.

“I’ve never done this before,” Raven rushed out, her cheeks pinkening. At her words, Kellen stilled.

A gift.

She was a gift to him.

All his. No one before and no one after would touch her. Blood roared in his ears, and he had to force himself to take deep breaths. Though he wanted to ravish her, now was the time to take care.

“Will you share yourself with me?” Kellen asked, his eyes heavy on hers. The moment drew out until finally, finally, Raven nodded. Kellen closed his eyes, relief pouring through him, before he lifted her and rolled, reversing their positions.

“Um, it’s just…” Raven began and Kellen laughed, covering her mouth with his own. By the time he’d kissed her breathless, she was panting beneath his lips, her hips rocking gently toward his.

“Raven. Darling?”
