“Javi,” he says, slowly. “What are you doing here?”

“I came to check on Alana,” I reply, pushing past him into the room.

I see Alana sitting on a chair, her eyes closed, with a black crystal on her forehead. Trine and Misha are sitting on the bed opposite her, holding her hands.

“What’s going on? Is she okay?” I ask, feeling a sense of panic rising in my chest.

“She’s fine,” Dom says, his voice calm. “We’re just doing a little protection ritual to make sure she’s safe.”

I look at him skeptically. “Protection ritual? What are you protecting her from?”

Dom hesitates for a moment. “You know what happened on stage? And what happened back at the first venue? We think it’s a demonic presence targeting Alana.”

My eyes widen in shock. A demonic presence? I had heard rumors swirling around the band, but I never thought it could be something so sinister. I’ve never been much of a believer, but I know what I saw, and how weird things have been lately. It’s not like a demonic presence is completely out of left field.

I just don’t know what I think about it yet. I don’t want anything to be after Alana.

“And you think this protection ritual will work?” I ask, trying to keep my voice steady.

“I think we have to try,” Trine says. “I don’t want anyone to hurt her.”

I nod. She’s right, I don’t want anything to happen to Trine.

“Is there anything I can do?” I ask as Dom lets me in.

Misha looks at me, his eyes softening. “Just be here for her,” he says. “Alana needs all the support she can get right now.”

I guess we weren’t as discreet as I thought, but it doesn’t matter. Right now, he’s right. I need to focus on Alana’s well-being, I need to protect her. I lean down and grab her hand, and she smiles gratefully at me.

“Thank you,” she says softly.

I nod again as Dom continues doing what he was doing before I interrupted.

As Dom continues his chant, I can feel the energy in the room shifting, becoming heavier, more intense. The obsidian crystal on Alana's forehead pulsates with a dark light, and I can't help but feel a sense of unease.

But I force myself to stay strong, to be there for Alana. She needs me now more than ever, and I won't let her down.

The chanting grows louder, more insistent, and suddenly, there's a sharp crackling sound.

I look up and see a dark shadow writhing in the corner of the room, its shape shifting and twisting as if it's alive. I feel a chill run down my spine as I realize that this must be the demon Dom was talking about.

Before I can react, Alana lets out a scream. I turn to her, and I can see that her body is convulsing, her eyes rolling back in her head.

And then the demon towers over me–the demon turns into a wisp of smoke and swirls around us, and I watch as it tries to go into Alana’s mouth. I want to swat it away, but I don’t think that’s going to do anything. I know for a fact, though I’m not sure why, that this thing is strong. That just trying to fight it won’t work.

I feel my heart racing with fear as the demon moves closer and closer to Alana. I can see the panic in her eyes as she tries to pull away, but Trine and Misha are holding onto her tightly.

I realize that I need to do something, anything, to protect her.

I close my eyes and take a deep breath, trying to center myself. And then, without even knowing where the words come from, I start to chant along with Dom. I thought I didn’t know the words, but it turns out that I do. I have no time to think about what that might mean, but what I do know is that the demon is moving away from Alana and it’s approaching me.

The fear grips through me almost hard enough to knock me off my feet.

But I don't let it stop me. I keep chanting, my voice growing louder and more confident with each passing moment. The obsidian crystal on Alana's forehead glows brighter, and I can feel the energy in the room shifting once again.

The demon seems to be struggling against my words, its form twisting and contorting as if it's in pain.

For a second, I think it might overpower me, but then I feel a surge of power coursing through me, and the demon suddenly dissolves into nothingness.
