As we step out into the cool night air, I can feel the weight of what just happened settling on my shoulders. Did we really just banish a demon? Was that even possible? And what the fuck was that power I felt?

I look over at Javi, who is still looking shaken. "Are you okay?" I ask him softly.

He nods slowly. "Yeah. I think I am. I just...still need to figure out what the fuck that was.”

But there are no answers. None of us have any answers.

We start walking down the street, the darkness of the night punctuated only by the occasional streetlamp. I can still feel the obsidian crystal's energy swirling around us, protecting us from harm.

"I think we need to talk about what just happened," Dom says after a while, breaking the silence. "We need to figure out what we're dealing with here."

“There is no need for research,” Trine says. “There are demons, they’re targeting me, and the people I love. I shouldn’t have done this. They’re…there’s a war brewing, guys, and I’m at the forefront. And you guys, by being my friends, you’re at the forefront too.”

We all stop walking and turn to look at Trine. Her expression is somber, and I can see the fear in her eyes. She looks so exhausted, I can’t believe she’s been carrying this burden alone.

Well, with her boyfriends, I guess. But that’s still not great.

She should’ve felt safe throwing us, but I guess she didn’t think that we were going to be able to understand.

And maybe we wouldn’t have, maybe I wouldn’t have believed her before this night. I already feel like a bad friend.

"What do you mean, a war is brewing?" Javi asks, his voice filled with concern.

Trine takes a deep breath, her eyes flickering over each of us. "I mean that the demons aren't just targeting me," she says softly. "They're after all of us. And if we don't figure out how to stop them, they're going to destroy everything we hold dear. That’s what the five of us have been trying to do…up in Boston. I’ve been trying to protect you guys.”

I cross my arms over my chest. “You shouldn’t have done that at your own expense.”

“Al, what could you have done?” Trine asks. “How could any of you have done anything?”

I shrug, feeling a little helpless. "I don't know," I say. "But we can't just sit around and wait for them to come after you. We need to do something. We need to tell the rest of the girls."

"I agree," Dom says, his voice firm. "With Alana. I don’t agree with you, Trine. I think we need to know a lot more, like, what exactly are we dealing with? Do we even know what kind of demons these are?"

Trine shakes her head. "Not yet. But I have a feeling we're going to find out soon enough."

We continue walking, lost in thought. The air is chilly, and I can see my breath fogging up in front of me.

“I’m just really glad you’re okay, Al,” Trine says.

I shake my head, my hands on her shoulders. “None of us are okay until you’re okay, Trine,” I reply. “And we’re going to make sure that you are. Okay?”

She nods, tears welling up in her eyes. “Yeah,” she says. “Okay.”

Wegetbacktothe hotel–the hotel we were supposed to be staying at in the first place–late into the evening. There’s no one around except for a few hotel workers.

Trine leads us to her room.

We all pile inside, feeling the weight of the day settling on our shoulders. I can see the exhaustion in everyone's eyes, but we all know that we can't rest until we have a plan of action.

Trine takes a seat on the edge of her bed, her fingers working nervously at the hem of her shirt. “There’s a lot we need to deal with,” she says. “And I appreciate how much you guys are helping me, but…I need to rest. I need to regroup, I need to think. I think you guys do too.”

Alana nods. “I’m exhausted. Today has been a lot.”

“Yeah, I couldn’t agree more,” I say.

Javi doesn’t say anything, but from the expression on his face, I can tell he also thinks so.
