“I know where Crown Point is, you dipshit. I went to Shadow Valley.”

The rival fucking school.

I groan. “How did I not know that about you?”

He chuckles, quiet for a moment. Then, “Your girl okay?”

I glance back at Melody. She doesn’t seem bothered by my soft talking, but I hop to my feet and head into the kitchen anyway. I’m too amped up to sleep. I’d love to, but…

Steele and Greyson are already there.

“Hey,” I greet them. I put my call on speaker phone. “Did you know Camden Church went to Shadow Valley?”

Greyson shakes his head. “When did he graduate? Like ten years ago?”

Church groans. “Four years ago, asshole.”

“Oh. I thought you actually had a reason for playing like a grandfather.”

I burst out laughing. “Grandpas don’t have random hookups.”

“I didn’t,” Church snaps. “I’m hanging up on you now. And just know if you’re not back in Denver by practice tomorrow, I’m going to have your head.”

“Yeah, yeah.”

The line goes dead. I toss my phone on the counter and rub my eyes.

“Where’s Miles?”

“He went out for a run,” Steele answers. “Knox finally passed out upstairs. Girls are getting ready, except for Willow. No idea what she’s doing.”

I stop for a moment.

It’s nice to have people. To be surrounded again. I missed out on this portion in school, happier to live in my parents’ empty house than be bothered by the whims of five other guys. But now that I’m on my own…

Maybe I should’ve done that.

“You’re grinning like a sap,” Steele comments.

I wipe the smile off my face and scowl at him instead.

Greyson shakes his head. “Coffee?”

“Definitely.” Because I’ve had a total of zero hours of sleep and I’m running on fumes. My adrenaline has long since abandoned me.

“I chartered us a flight,” Greyson adds. He slides me a mug. “For noon. It’ll put us in Denver around three.”

A five-hour flight, minus the two-hour time change—but then his words register.

“Wait. Youchartereda flight?”

He makes a face. “Dad’s got a private jet. His crew knows it’s available for my use when he’s not using it. And since he’s in New York to woo Governor White for the time being, it’s free.”

Well. That’s unexpectedly nice.

I finish my coffee and head back downstairs. I shift Melody’s legs into my lap and get comfortable, and soon enough, I’m asleep.

Until Melody starts crying anyway.
