“I want him fucking gone, and I’m trying to be patient.”’

“We got this,” Duke murmurs. “But it will take time.”

That’s not what I want to hear, but I will hear it because I know he is right. This needs to take time. Because if it’s immediate, everyone will know it’s me. As much as I don’t want to fucking wait, I have to.

“You got this, brother. Just ten days until you’re tied down, then we can focus on this.”

I am ready to focus on this shit, too.

ChapterNine

PIPER

Henli’s eyeswiden at the sight of the sofa in front of me. “This is too much,” I whisper.

“This is gorgeous,” she says.

It is gorgeous. It’s beautiful. It’s a coffee-colored leather L-shaped sofa that is so soft to the touch, it truly feels like butter. Henli is sitting on said sofa, lounging on the longer side with Bodhi in her arms.

“I take it back. This is heaven.”

Smiling, I sink down on the leather and reach out, running my fingers over it. Yeah, it’s heaven. But it’s too expensive. I’ve already seen the price, and there is no way I can approve this at all.

“It’s too expensive,” I rasp.

“But it’s heaven. I think Itch would totally agree to this,” she states.

I’m sure he would, and he would probably tell me to buy it, and I would feel extremely guilty about it. So, yeah. I can’t even tell him that this sofa exists. Even though I would absolutely love to have it.

“We need something cheaper,” I say. “If I didn’t have a whole house to buy.”

Henli gives me a smile and nods her head. “I get it. But this is heaven,” she murmurs.

Together we stand, leaving the gorgeous sofa on the salesroom floor, then make our way toward the back of the shop, where I am sure the less expensive pieces are located. The pieces aren’t lush, but they’re still nice.

Reaching out, I run my fingers over a gray microfiber sofa. It’s soft, and I think it’s going to be comfortable. I sit down on the fabric, lean back, and let my body sink into the cushion.

“This isn’t as heavenly,” Henli announces from beside me. I look at her. Her lips are curved up into a grin.

“It’s not,” I confirm.

“But it’s really nice, and it is comfortable. I like it. Plus, you can change the color scheme of your house by just switching out the pillows.”

I don’t think I’ll be changing any color schemes, probably ever. But with this price, it doesn’t matter. It’s a quarter of what the leather one costs, and I feel it’s the right choice for our new home.

“I think this is it,” I say.

“I think so, too,” she murmurs. “Did you like the house?”

I’m surprised by her question. I assume she’s seen it, that she helped Itch with it. Turning toward her, I give her a smile. “I love it.”

“When he told me he bought a house and didn’t take you to see it before he put in an offer, I thought he was crazy. I couldn’t believe it, but he really did it.”

“You didn’t see it with him?” I ask.

She shakes her head. “Nobody saw it or even knew about it. He just did it. He told Brick after it was all done and said that he wanted you to have a home after the wedding.”

Wow.
