Turning up the radio, I try to calm my fucking nerves. I have no idea what is going to happen, but when it does, I won’t be there, so I don’t understand why I’m so fucking nervous about this shit.

I don’t need to be.

It doesn’t take us long to reach Raul and his drop-off point. Just as I suspected, Dutch isn’t there, no doubt still under lock and key. Still being held closely and watched even closer. Roadkill is there before me. He’s already talking to Raul as I pull up beside the transport car.

I climb out of the front seat and walk up to Roadkill and Raul. There are a few other men standing around, but they’re obviously just there to observe because they aren’t even standing close enough to hear the conversation between the two.

As soon as I approach, Raul extends his arm, his hand waiting to shake mine. Against everything inside of me, my lips curve up into a smile and I extend my arm and put my hand in his. We shake and release.

“The wedding is soon,” he announces, as if I don’t know that shit. “Can’t wait to see my baby sister walk down the aisle.”

I try not to cringe, because he is the last fucking person I want there, but I already knew he would be coming. Legacy invited him, not giving me a fucking choice on the matter, which is fine because he is Raul’s sister, and this is supposed to be a bringing together or some such shit.

Although, since I’m trying to sabotage his whole fucking operation, it isn’t going to make one ounce of a fucking difference in a few months. Thankfully, the subject is changed quickly, and we go about the transfer of the car. Raul’s men check the merchandise, and I give them the slip from the supplier with the amounts of what they ordered.

Then we leave.

We leave knowing that people are going to die.

“The photographer, cake, catering, flowers, DJ, and rental company have all confirmed. The prospects have ordered the booze, and I think everything is all set up,” Henli announces.

Taking the day off was the best thing I did, because just listening to Henli go over everything makes my heart slam against my chest with anxiety. She is checking things off her list while I hold Bodhi. He soothes me, this little innocent baby in my arms.

When I don’t say anything, Henli lifts her head, her eyes finding mine. “You okay?” she asks.

“I’m okay,” I reply with a nod. “I need to get stuff for the kitchen and bathrooms, though. I’ve been looking around on the Internet app on my phone, and I’m overwhelmed. Plus, this whole wedding thing is overwhelming, too.”

Confessing that, admitting that everything is overwhelming, probably makes me sounds ungrateful, but I’m not. In fact, I’ve never been more grateful to a person and a group than I am these people.

My new people.

“Then let’s go shopping. The wedding stuff is pretty much done. We pick up your dress in two days, and everything else has been scheduled and confirmed. Let’s have Kiplyn and Reese meet us at the home goods store. We can pick out all the things.”

My lips curve up into a smile, and I nod. “I like the sound of that.”

“Then afterward, drinks.”

“I can’t drink,” I say with a laugh. “But I’ll go and hold Bodhi.”

Henli smiles, then she leans forward slightly before she speaks again. “I think you might love my baby more than I do.” I gasp in horror. There is no way I could love Bodhi more than she does. “I’m only joking,” she says with a giggle.

“He’s just so sweet,” I murmur.

“He is,” a deep voice rumbles from behind me.

I turn around to find Legacy standing just a few feet away, but his focus is on the bundle in my arms. “I’ll take him for the day. You girls do your shit.”

“Brick?” Henli whispers.

He lifts his gaze to meet hers, and they watch one another for a moment. It’s a sexually charged moment, and I feel like perhaps they both need a little time alone. If I could get away with it, I would slip away from between them and take Bodhi into the bedroom and put him down for a nap or something.

“You need some time with the girls,” he says. “When you’re ready for us to come and get you, Bodhi and I will be there.”

Without another word, he bends slightly, scoops the baby from my arms, reaches for the diaper bag, and walks away. I shift my attention to Henli, my eyes wide as I stare at her and wait for whatever it is she’s going to say next, because I have a feeling she has something to say.

“That man,” she says. “He’s perfect.” The last word ends on a purr, and I know that, thatman. He’s everything to her. She stands, gathers her purse, then looks at me with a smile.
