There’s only one place I can take her right now, and that’s into one of our holding rooms, where we would normally hold someone who is an enemy to the club. Because at this point, I’m wondering why the fuck she’s trying so hard to be part of this, to be my woman, to get Piper gone. There must be a reason.

“Please, don’t hurt me. I’m pregnant with your baby,” Tempt cries as I drag her ass down to the holding room.

“I’m not fucking hurting you, bitch. I’m putting you in this room so I don’t kill you.”

Slamming the door, I lock it in an attempt to not only to save myself, but to also save Tempt. Turning around, I make my way back to the bar and stop at the sight of Reese and Kiplyn on the floor next to Piper.

“Is she okay?” I ask, crouching down beside her. Reese looks at me, tears filling her eyes.

“She’s breathing, but she’s not waking up,” she rasps.

Slipping my arms beneath her body, I pick her up and stand up straight. I shift my attention to Legacy and jerk my chin. “I’ll be in my room. The doctor comes to me first, then we go from there to Tempt.”

He dips his chin in a slow nod, and as I turn around, not a single person stands in my way. Walking us toward the hallway, I ignore the way everyone stares at us. It’s almost as if the ocean parts to let me through.

Once I’m in the bedroom, I slowly lower Piper down on the bed. Her head rests on the pillow, and she appears to be peaceful, but she’s not. She’s fucking passed the fuck out, and it’s all my fault.

Lifting my hand, I extend my fingers and slide the pads down the side of her face. Her skin is smooth but too cool. That scares me. I don’t know what is happening, if she’s even alive or dead. She looks like she is half-dead, and it makes my stomach twist.

This is my fault. All of it. I should have made getting Tempt to a doctor and forcing the DNA test a priority, but I was so wrapped up in fucking over Raul and Dutch, in Cyrus dying, that I kept pushing it and didn’t focus on what I needed to, which was this shit.

And now it’s bit me in the goddamn ass and possibly harmed my wife all at the same time. What the actual fuck is wrong with me? I’m selfish, that’s what. I assumed that Piper was strong and capable enough to take care of herself.

Even though I know she’s only eighteen. I haven’t really thought about the fact that she’sonlyeighteen.

This is all my fault.

All my fucking fault.

It feels like a lifetime before the doctor shows up. He walks into the room, Reese, Kiplyn, Henli, Legacy, Roadkill, and Agony filing in behind him. I’m glad they’re all here, they should be, but my guilt swims inside of my belly, slowly climbing up my throat, and threatens to choke me.

“What’s happened?” the doctor asks as he approaches the bedside. I don’t even open my mouth fast enough to speak.

Reese beats me to it, telling the doctor the story. The doctor hums when he hears the part about Tempt pulling Piper down onto the hard ground, her head bouncing against the concrete floor.

He doesn’t respond as he begins to examine her. After a few moments, he stands and turns to me. “I believe she has a minor traumatic brain injury,” he begins. “She should be fine. However, she must be kept a close eye on. Can you do that?” he asks, his eyes finding mine but shifting behind me to the women.

I know why he doesn’t look at me, doesn’t ask for my confirmation. I’m not trustworthy, and he’s right. I’m fucking not. I shouldn’t even have a wife. I can’t take care of her. I leave her alone and don’t provide for her. I’m fucking worthless.

“What do we look for?” Reese asks.

The doctor explains the symptoms, that if she shows any of them, she is in serious danger and must be taken to the emergency room at once. Again, it’s best that he explained all of that to Reese, because I’m goddamn useless.

“There was someone else?” he asks.

“Yes,” I say, then shift my attention to Reese. “You’ll stay with her?”

She nods her head. “I’ll be right here until you return.”

Dipping my chin, I move past her and the rest of the crowd and out into the hallway. I don’t bother looking back to see if the men follow me, because I know they do. They’re just as curious about Tempt and her shit as I am.

The doctor stops right outside of the door, but I don’t unlock it immediately. “This one claims she’s pregnant with my baby. I don’t buy it. I’m not even sure if she’s knocked up, let alone if it’s mine. What can you find out?”

He rolls his eyes to the ceiling, then clears his throat. “You guys have got to start watching this shit. I can’t do much here. She’ll need to come into the office. I’ll open it up tonight if you want to bring her ass in. I got a nurse on call who can meet me there and help.”

“You can do a paternity test?” I ask.

He clears his throat. “I can send it out. It’ll take a few weeks for the results to come back. I’m about sick of this shit,” he says, mumbling the last line.
