Legacy holds up his hand. “I’ll get a couple prospects to get this bitch to your office. We’ll meet you there.”

The doctor nods his head, then turns around. “You call me if your wife has any issues, after we handle all of this, yeah?”

“Yeah, I will, doc.”

He leaves us alone in the hall. Legacy is on the phone calling for a couple of prospects to get their asses down here. Agony and Roadkill stare at me, their judgment clear in their gaze.

I don’t give much of a fuck. This is the name of the game, and I couldn’t predict this shit would happen when Duke offered this bitch up on a silver platter for me.

With a grunt, I reach into my pocket and pull out my phone while I wait for the prospects. I find his number, then pressSend. Agony and Roadkill aren’t watching me anymore, but I know they don’t feel as if I’ve handled any of this the right way.

“Itch,” he answers.

“Your bitch here tried to kill my wife.”

There is a moment of silence. He doesn’t say anything immediately in response, but I continue. “I don’t know if she’s even knocked up. I’m having that and a DNA test done tonight. But that’s not the only reason I’m calling.”

“Want to continue?” he asks me.

Laughing, I clear my throat. “Yeah, Dutch broke into my house and threatened Piper. Said he was going to take her as retaliation for me fucking with their supply. He knows. Raul doesn’t buy it, but he knows.”

“Fuck,” he hisses.

“I need protection for Piper. Dutch would be all over a brother standing guard. He’d know exactly why he was there.”

“I got you. Where is she now?” he asks.

“She’s at the clubhouse. But I need protection for her when she goes home. I’m putting her on lock-fucking-down for a while, but it can’t be forever.”

PIPER

I can’t open my eyes. Something feels heavy in my head. My brain feels foggy. I try as hard as I can, but my eyes stay closed, as if they’ve been taped shut. There is silence around me. Then I hear voices.

Reese, Kiplyn, and Henli are here, but I don’t hear any men’s voices. I don’t even hear Itch’s. I think about his mouth on mine, his hands on my body, and wonder if I’ll ever feel any of it again. It’s been ages, and now I can’t even open my eyes.

“Do you think they’re going to kill her?” a voice asks. It’s Kiplyn.

“Kill?” Henli asks.

“Tempt. She hurt an old lady. No way does she just get away with that,” Reese announces.

“I don’t think they’ll kill her, but I have a feeling shit is going to go down. That bitch isn’t pregnant. I have a feeling she’s been lying this whole time.”

I try with everything that I am to pull myself out of this sleep. It takes another hour of them chatting amongst themselves before I can finally feel myself starting to wake up. When I do, I let out a moan, then a whimper.

Finally, my eyes open, and thankfully, the room is dark enough that I don’t have to squint. Sucking in a deep breath, I turn my head to the side and look at Kiplyn, who is sitting beside me.

Her lips curve up into a grin, and she reaches out, taking my hand in hers, and squeezes gently. “Hey, you were knocked out cold for a while. How are you doing?” she asks.

My body feels heavy, my arms and legs don’t move the way I want them to, and my brain feels foggy, but I’m awake. Pushing up to sitting, I lean my back against the headboard. My head hurts, it pounds actually, but I’m awake.

“What happened?” I ask.

“That bitch, Tempt, grabbed you and pulled you down onto the ground. I think you hit your head,” Henli says.

Lifting my hand, I cup my forehead as I try to remember what happened. Everything is a blur. I remember coming down here to ask for a key and a gun. I recall Itch ordering me to stay in the room, but I didn’t do that.

I should have listened to him.
