I snort. There is no plan that is foolproof like that. We’re doing something highly fucking illegal. We’re human trafficking, something that has never been part of how our club made money, not even when we were one-hundred-percent illegal.

Legacy shakes his head in one short move, then clears his throat. “I got no ins with feds other than Logan, and I’m with Agony in his thinking that something is very wrong with the situation. I can call Duke and Bond, but they’re in the same boat as we are. They want to go legit, and they’re just trying to ensure they don’t end up in the pen as well.”

“I got an idea. Could get us killed,” Volt calls out.

Legacy chuckles, and a couple of the other guys simultaneously snort. We’re all about shit that could get us killed. Otherwise, we wouldn’t be sitting in this fucking room together. “I’m all fuckin’ ears,” Legacy murmurs.

Volt leans back in his chair, his gaze flicking around the room. I watch him, wondering what the fuck he’s got working inside that brain of his. He’s fucked like the rest of us, but he’s been vocal about wanting to go legit, though I’m not quite sure why. It’s not like he has an old lady of his own or any kids.

But maybe he’s just fucking tired of always having to look over his shoulder—I know I am.

“Listening devices.”

“They won’t stand up in court,” Hellcat calls out.

“No,” Volt murmurs. “They won’t. But they will scare the fucking shit out of Logan. Because we can give them to the feds, they do the minimum amount of research on that asshole, and they’re going to find out the truth.”

He’s right. Unless the group is all like Logan. Although if they are, it wouldn’t matter what the fuck we had on them. They wouldn’t give a fuck, and they’d do what they wanted anyway, so it’s not a bad plan.

“Makes me feel like a fucking narc,” Roadkill mutters.

“Welcome to the other side of shit,” I call out on a laugh. He lifts his hand, flipping me off before Legacy speaks again.

“We’ll do Volt’s plan, but on a larger scale. I need someone who can film from afar, someone who can record from up close, but also, I need a few snipers set up and ready to go if shit hits the fan. How does that sound?”

I grin. For the first time since we started this shit with Duke, Bond, and Logan, I feel as if maybe we might be on the upside of shit. It’s felt almost as if we were drowning, but right now, I can actually fucking breathe.

We’re going to do this. And it is going to work out. It has to. It must. There’s no other way around it. I fucking refuse to be played.

REESE

I let out a sigh of relief. They’ve all left. All the old ladies have taken off. They have lives and babies and all the things that I don’t have… yet. Placing my hand on my belly, I shift my gaze around the room.

The men are out of the conference room where they hold church. Half of them are bellied up to the bar, the rest have started playing pool, but I haven’t seen Agony anywhere.

I still don’t know exactly what’s going on, but I want to know because judging by the way I’m being avoided by people who would have at least smiled at me before, they discussed me in some way in that room.

Watching the conference room, I wait for Agony to come out because I’m ready to go home. I’ve never felt uncomfortable in this clubhouse until right this moment. Pressing my lips together, I roll them a few times as I slowly stand.

I don’t know what to do. Or where to go. So, I shift my weight from one foot to the other. I should have asked Kiplyn or any of the other girls to stay with me. I haven’t felt this alone since I ran away months ago.

Moving through the room, I head toward the back of the building again so I can slip outside. It’s no longer the middle of the day, so while it’ll be hot outside still, there will be some stars to look at.

Pushing the door open, I let out a sigh and take a few steps outside, tipping my head back as I look up at the star-studded sky. There is a noise beside me, and I turn quickly, jumping slightly at the sight of two men sitting on a bench.

Then my lips twitch into a smile at the sight of them. It’s Charley and Justin. “You’re still here,” I murmur.

Charley grunts. “Your man wanted to talk to us about something, so we have to fucking wait.”

I almost laugh because I have a feeling Charley waits for no one unless he wants to. Which means he wants to be here. I open my mouth to say just that when Justin stands from his seat and closes the distance between us until he is just a few inches from me.

“You’re good?” he asks. I open my mouth to tell him yes, but then he continues, “He’s good to you?”

Tears well in my eyes. I reach out and touch the back of his hand, but only a brush of my fingers, before I inhale a deep breath, then let it out slowly.

“I’m good,” I whisper. “Truly.”

There is a noise behind us, and I turn to see that Agony has made his way through the doorway and into the night air. He doesn’t look as angry as I expected him to, but maybe he’s okay with it all since he knows both of them.
