“You mind stepping away from my woman?” he asks.

Maybe not.

Justin smirks then takes a step backward. Charley stands from the picnic table as well and moves toward us. “You got something to show us?” Charley asks.

Agony hums, his focus flicking between both Justin and Charley. Then he jerks his chin. “Follow me. We’ll head downtown.”

Without another word, Agony grips my hand in his, then tugs me behind him. Swiftly, we walk toward the parking lot. There are bikes, cars, and pickup trucks all lined up. I sink my teeth into my bottom lip as we make our way toward his bike.

“Do you think I should ride on that being pregnant?” I ask.

Agony turns his head, looking over his shoulder at me. “Get on the bike.”

His words come out harsh, almost as if he’s pissed off. Whipping my head to the side, I look back at the clubhouse and wonder if I should go back inside and wait for them to come back. I don’t really have to go with them... do I?

“On the bike.”

His words come out with a bite that I’m not used to from him. It’s clear this is what he wants me to do, so I climb onto the back of the bike behind him, my pregnant belly pressing against his back as I wrap my arms around his waist and rest my cheek against his back.

The bike moves down the country roads, then through the streets, until we’re in the downtown area again. He passes by my shop, then parks three buildings down until he kills the engine and helps me climb off.

My legs feel a little wobbly, and I realize it’s been too long since I’ve been on his bike. “Why wouldn’t you take my car?” I ask, knowing he had no issue with driving me in it earlier today.

Agony throws his leg over the bike and closes the distance between us. I want to demand that he answer me. I want to know why he commanded that I ride his bike. He doesn’t answer me immediately. His eyes focus on mine, and then he finally speaks.

“You’re my woman,” he announces.

“This was about establishing dominance?” I ask.

He winks, his lips turning up into a smirk as he reaches out, wraps his hand around my wrist, and tugs me behind him. He doesn’t say anything else, his stride long and quick as he moves through downtown. I can hear the bootfalls behind me from Charley and Justin.

Agony stops and reaches for the door handle. I watch him as he shoves a key into the door lock and turns it. I don’t understand how he has a key to this building. He already bought mine. Does this mean he bought this one as well?

I almost ask him what is going on when he clears his throat and starts to talk. His words surprise me. He flips on the lights and starts to explain his idea. It’s a lot like Charley’s bar—a simple menu, simple decor, a biker bar that anyone would feel comfortable walking into and hanging out at.

I love it. But I also wonder why this, why now?

“It’s just another avenue to create revenue legitimately,” Agony states. And my heart soars. I know they had talked about going legit at one time, but I didn’t know it was really happening.

This man and his people are trying, and there is something beautiful about that. Sure, they’ll probably never be completely aboveboard.

But this is a start.

It’s a really good start, and it makes me wonder where else, as a group, they’ve made changes. I make a mental note to ask him when Charley and Justin leave.

ChapterTwenty-Five

REESE

Reaching out,I close my eyes and run my fingers over the side of the bed. It’s empty and cold. Which means he’s been out of it for a while. Rolling over to my side, I reach for my phone and check the time.

It’s past two in the morning.

With a frown, I throw my legs over the side of the bed and force myself to sit up, then stand up. Listening for any noises, I carefully tiptoe through the house in search of Lance.

Moving toward the fridge, I open the door. I almost don’t see him. The light on the refrigerator shines out onto the patio, and when I move a certain way, it catches him perfectly.

He’s sitting out on the back patio at the small table and chair set. Moving toward him, I slowly open the sliding glass door and pause when I realize he’s on the phone.
