“Sounds shaky as fuck,” I mutter,

“You want to know if Logan is on the side of the feds or the side of himself? She’ll know.”

I want to tell them that this is a fucking stupid idea. What if we don’t stop the trade and send Thunder off to a group of fucking monsters? But the way Legacy is watching him, I have a feeling that this is going to happen.

Sucking in a breath, I let it out slowly. “We send Thunder, but we have to be in complete agreement that we do not walk out of this without her. She’s part of the Devil’s Hellions, and it’s our duty to protect her.”

Hellcat and Legacy both agree with my statement, and we make a pact that we will finish this shit with Logan once and for all in a day. “Call him. Confirm it,” Legacy murmurs.

Taking my phone out of my jeans pocket, I find Logan’s number, call, and then put it on speaker. It only takes a couple of rings for Logan to pick up. His voice echoes as he greets me, and I know he’s likely in the warehouse right now.

“We’ll do it day after tomorrow,” I state.

Logan chuckles. “I thought you might say that.”

“You need any extra girls?” I ask, trying not to sound too pushy.

I’m also not going to dignify his fucking words with a response. Fuck him. Completely. So, I ignore his comment and wait for him to answer me.

“I could use a couple,” he says.

“I have one.”

There’s a moment of silence, then he asks me if it’s Reese. “The woman who is carrying my baby? No, that’s not who it is.” I try really hard not to call him a dumb motherfucker and have to bite the inside of my lip in order not to do just that.

“So, who is it, then?” he asks.

If I didn’t know him at all, I would say he sounds bored, but I do know him, and I’m positive he is not bored at all. In fact, he is likely overly excited about the opportunity to have another girl in one of his cages.

“Her name’s Thunder,” I say.

It’s done.

It can’t be taken back now. Even though I don’t like anything about any of this fucking shit. He agrees to the bait, and I promise to bring her to him tomorrow morning. Fucking hell, this is as good as a done deal, and I hate that.

The last thing I want is to have anyone else hurt, even if it’s a sweet butt, and I have a feeling we are not coming out of this, as a club, unscathed.

ChapterTwenty-Six

REESE

When I wake up,it’s later in the morning, but I’m alone again. It seems as if I’m destined to wake up alone. Maybe it’s just the way of our lives right now. We do have a lot going on. There is all that stuff with the club and Douglas, and I know that Lance has been trying to juggle it all, so I shouldn’t be upset, but hormones are a damn bitch.

Sitting up, I throw my legs over the side of the bed and make my way to the bathroom. I don’t look at myself in the mirror. I don’t know why, but there is something that tells me not to today.

Once I’ve taken care of business, I make my way into the living room and then the kitchen to grab a water. The house is so still, so peaceful, I feel as if I have to tiptoe through the space, even though there is no reason for me to actually be quiet.

I open the fridge and grab a bottle, twisting the top off before I take a long drink. The hairs on the back of my neck stand up, a chill sliding down my spine. Slowly, I turn around. I don’t drop my bottle of water, but I do lower it from my lips at the sight that greets me.

“Douglas,” I exhale.

His lips form a grin. I thought I was safe. I knew he was here, but I stupidlythoughtI was safe.

Stupid.

I’m ridiculously stupid.

My first instinct is to run, but as I think about the situation, I realize he had to have gotten past four Devil’s Hellions members to get into this house. Paralyzing fear slides down my spine. All my muscles seize as I stare at him, comprehending what that means.
