I don’t know why, but I expect him to release my throat. He doesn’t. His lips curve into a grin. “I know,” he purrs. “Don’t worry about any of that. We’ll get rid of it.”

Before I realize what I’m doing, my body instantly becomes unstuck. I start to reach for his wrist but know there will be absolutely no way I’ll be able to get his grasp off me with my own fingers and my lack of strength compared to his.

I must do something different.

So, I lift my hands between us, curl my fingers into claws, reach forward, and scratch down his entire face. His eyes, his cheeks, everything. I try my hardest to draw blood, knowing this will be the only way I’ll be able to get away.

The element of surprise.

AGONY

Thunder isn’t happy about this, but since Hellcat asked her personally, she’s going to do it. Goddamn, this is what love does to people. It makes us stupid as fuck. Legacy, Duke, Bond, Thunder, and I drive out to the warehouse.

Tomorrow is the big day, and all we can do is hope that Thunder can get some insight and that we’ll be able to get her out before she’s shipped off to some faraway land with a sicko.

Pulling up to the warehouse, I look at Thunder. Her lips are pressed together in a thin line as she stares straight ahead. I sit in the car, waiting for the other guys to ride up, knowing I am not going to walk into Logan’s warehouse alone.

I don’t trust him.

Something is definitely happening, and I refuse to get caught with my dick out, waving in the fucking wind. Alone.

“What will happen to me if you guys don’t get me out in time?” Thunder asks.

They’re the first words she’s spoken since she said she would do this. Pressing my lips together, I continue to stare straight ahead, rolling them a few times before I let out a heavy sigh.

“I don’t know,” I confess. “I’m going to try everything in my power to ensure you are out safely. I don’t plan on leaving you there.”

I wish my words could be more positive and concrete. That I could make her promises, but I can’t. Letting out a sigh, I run my fingers through my hair before I turn to her.

Although I don’t completely look away from the warehouse, I can’t pretend it isn’t there. That I don’t know what horrors are behind those doors. I have to keep one eye on it just because I cannot turn my back.

My gut feeling is so fucking strong about this place, about Logan—I can’t ignore it. It’s in my view, so I must keep my eye on it. I must know what the fuck is going to come out of there. I can’tnotlook at it.

“I’ll do this for the Devil’s Hellions,” she whispers. “But this is the end of my commitment to you.”

“What does that mean?” I ask, still only halfway paying attention to her.

“It means once this is done, I’m done.”

I don’t respond immediately. I don’t know what to say, but I hear the bikes rumbling closer toward us. All I can do is say her name.

“Thunder.”

“I’m done,” she rasps. “Completely done. I want to move on with my life, and this doesn’t make me happy anymore.”

I can understand exactly what she’s saying. This life, while it can be fucking amazing, can also be fucking stressful. And she’s been a sweet butt for years. It’s not the kind of position that offers you a chance to find someone and start a family with them, and if that’s what she wants, she needs to go.

“I get it, babe,” I murmur just as the men pull up and kill their engines.

Thunder and I open our doors simultaneously before we stand from the car. Legacy and Duke lead the way, me and Bond behind him with Thunder between us. It feels as if we’re on a goddamn death march.

Leading the lamb to the slaughter, or whatever the fuck you want to call it.

We don’t even have to knock on the door. Logan opens it as soon as we approach. Flicking my gaze around, I look for the cameras, but I don’t see them. He’s hidden them well, which means that as much as I want to think he’s a fucking idiot, he’s not.

“Welcome,” he calls out as we walk past him and into the warehouse.

I only take three steps in before my entire body jerks to a halt. Thunder gasps behind me. I don’t know what to say, what to do, any of it. I stand stock-still. Thunder grabs my hand and squeezes it tightly, but I don’t really feel it as my eyes shift around the space in front of me.
