Dad clears his throat as he leans back in his chair, his eyes finding mine. “Ray suddenly became very motivated.”

I’m sure his daughter and wife being killed had nothing to do with it. Although he would never be able to prove that we killed either of them. No bodies will ever be found. It doesn’t matter. None of it does. We need this building and the contract with the government. We need all of this done and without this man causing waves.

I feel like he’s going to be a fucking problem. I don’t think he’s going to just slip away quietly. I’m not sure why exactly. I just don’t see him doing that. I think a lot more noise will be coming from him. Not just showing up and making it, but also fucking with the contacts and the contract with the passport agency.

“Let’s get this shit done, then. I don’t trust him, though,” I point out.

“None of us does,” Dad mutters.

The paperwork is easy to sign, and a few moments later, Danica is brought in as a notary to certify the signatures. When it’s all finished, the four of us go to lunch together, and then we separate for the rest of the day and promise to see one another at dinner.

Coleman and I have a couple of deals we’re working on for the family on our own, so we head out together to handle our shit. Thankfully, Dad takes Hendrick home, probably to sleep his night off before he has to face Mom.

It’s a good and productive day. Maybe it’s just the Ray thing, but I’m not sure. I feel… off.

Something is off.

I think about texting Parker a few times throughout the day but end up getting distracted, and by the time I think about it again, I’m already at dinner with my family. My mom is ready for a discussion. She wouldn’t take to me texting very well, especially since I’m the focus of the dinner.

ChapterThirty-Six

PARKER

A noiseat the door startles me. I don’t move. Keeping my knees up to my chest, I wonder what is going to come now. I’ve been here for hours, and I know there is something coming for me… or rather, someone.

He’s going to hurt me. I know he is. There is no way around it at this point. He’s locked me up in here for hours. And hours. He’s not just going to let me walk out. He’s going to take his anger out on me.

It is his plan anyway.

I’m not going to survive this, and I hope that when Wells discovers what’s happened to me, he doesn’t get put in prison over it. Sinking my teeth into my bottom lip, I wait for him to say something. He’s standing in front of me. I can see his feet, but I’m not going to move yet.

I don’t want to look into his face. I don’t want to see any part of him if I don’t have to. He crouches down in front of me, reaches out to grab hold of my hair again, and snaps my neck awkwardly so I’m forced to look into his face.

“You’re all bruised, and it’s not from me. He beats you?”

Refusing to answer, I continue to stare at him, trying to keep my face completely expressionless. I’m sure it doesn’t work, and I know without a doubt that my eyes show exactly how terrified I am in this exact moment.

Ray’s lips curve up into a grin. “He doesn’t beat you. He hurts you when he fucks you, and you like it.”

I don’t say a word. He’s right. That’s exactly what it is, but I’m not going to admit it to him. Not fucking ever. His fingers tighten in my hair as his eyes search mine. I’m not sure what he’s looking for, but whatever it is, he’s sure happy about it.

He hauls me up to my feet with his tight grip on my hair. I cringe but don’t cry out the way I want to. Instead, I keep my mouth closed and sink my teeth into the skin inside my cheek. He doesn’t say anything else but instead drags me out of the room, down a hallway, and then stops.

“Look up,” he growls next to my ear.

Slowly, I lift my eyes to face the room. My breath hitches at the sight in front of me. Not one or two, but three men are sitting between a sofa and a love seat. I’m still braless, wearing only panties and Wells’s T-shirt. Their eyes roam over my body, not one of them looking above my breasts.

My stomach sinks, my heart races, and I know this is it. I will not survive this, and even if I do, Wells won’t want me anymore, so I may as well be dead. Nobody would want me. Not after whatever torture they have planned is enacted on my body, my heart, and most of all… my soul.

Ray shifts behind me. I can feel his lips against the shell of my ear before he rasps.

“See them?”

Staying quiet, I wait for him to finish, knowing he’s all hot to scare the absolute hell out of me, and it’s working.

“They are going to tear you from asshole to pussy. They’re going to fuck every single hole you have, and then they’ll leave you a bloody, cum-stained mess. And what do you think I’m going to do?”

There is a long pause, one where I don’t say a damn word, mainly because I have nothing to say. “I’m going to record it and send it to Wells so he can watch his pretty little woman be violently violated right before his eyes. And then, only then, will it be a life for a life.”
