So why hadn’t he woken me up? Or at least kissed me before he’d left?

The questions had barely crossed my mind when the bedroom door opened and he came in, carrying a tray and wearing nothing but black boxer shorts. It was a decided toss-up as to whether I was more excited by the heat in his gaze or the delicious smell of bacon.

“Your breakfast, ma’am.”

His voice was low and sexy, and my hormones did their usual delighted dance. I sat up, well aware his gaze was all but devouring me. He placed the tray over my thighs then kissed me, long and slow. He tasted of toast, honey, and desire, and I sighed regretfully when he finally pulled away.

He chuckled softly, sexily. “Never fear, I plan to spend the entire morning in bed with you.”

“So this”—I waved a hand toward the tray—“is a means of ensuring I have plenty of strength for the planned activities?”

“It is indeed.”

“I approve of this plan, then, though it has to be said, I would have been equally pleased to have woken up with your body already wrapped around mine.”

“Tomorrow, perhaps.”

“There will be no ‘perhaps’ about it.”

He laughed again and moved around to the other side of the bed, stripping off his boxer shorts before climbing in beside me. His shoulder pressed gently to mine, a light touch that burned through my entire body even as his warm, musky scent filled every breath. It felt like heaven. Felt like home. All I wanted to do was lose the tray and make up for lost time.

But my stomach had other ideas, letting its dissatisfaction about being empty be known quite loudly.

I grinned, picked up a sandwich half, and bit into it. The toast was hot and buttery, the bacon cooked perfectly. I made a rumbly sound of contentment, and he laughed. “I take it that means you’ve changed your mind and now approve of my decision not to wake you.”

“Sadly, yes. But you can use the time wisely and update me on what happened yesterday.”

He grimaced. “Nothing all that much. It was a domestic rather than a murder, but the victim was bad enough to be taken to hospital. We spent the day tracking her partner down.”

“The whole day?” I raised my eyebrows. “Did he flee in a car?”

“No, on foot.”

“Then how did he manage to avoid you for so long?”

“Used a lot of trail tricks—walking in creeks and whatnot.” Aiden shrugged. “He’s currently locked up.”

And would remain there until the court case, by the sound of it. While it was unfortunately common for domestic violence perpetrators to be released on bail, reservations were self-regulating and could set their own rules, as long as they worked within the general framework of State and Federal law.

“And what about the meeting you had with the council? Did you get to that?”

“No. It was rescheduled to one this afternoon, which is why I can’t spend the entire day loving you senseless, as I’d planned.”

I grinned. “Three quarters of the day will do just fine.”

He laughed and dropped a kiss lightly on my shoulder. “I like this plan.”

I unhurriedly finished my breakfast, and once I was done, he lifted the tray from my lap and placed it on the floor. Then, with a quick grin, he grabbed my ankles and slid me down the bed. The pillow behind me fell across my face, and with a quick laugh, he grabbed it and tossed it across the room. Then he stretched out beside me and pulled me so close that the heat of his erection pressed against my stomach and the rapid pounding of his heart echoed through my entire body. It was a beat my own matched.

He raised a hand and brushed wispy strands of hair from my cheek. “You have no idea how much I missed you.”

I laughed softly and trailed a finger down his hip, feeling his flesh jump as I got close to his erection but didn’t touch. “Oh, I think I do.”

The smile tugging his lips was beyond sexy, and desire surged through me. Of course, desire had never needed much prompting where he was concerned.

His touch moved from my cheek and down my neck, a featherlight caress that nevertheless felt hot enough to brand. When he trailed his fingers across my breasts, delight shivered through me. He chuckled softly, then leaned forward and claimed my lips, kissing me slowly at first and then with more intent, until my heart raced, my head buzzed, and all I could think about, all I wanted, was him. On me, in me.

When he finally pulled away, I groaned.
