“Patience,” he murmured, then set about deepening desire—something I hadn’t thought possible. For the longest time, we did nothing more than explore each other’s bodies with hands and lips and tongues, and it was gloriously sensual and utterly frustrating all at the same time.

It was only when the air burned with need and our bodies were slick with sweat and wanting that he finally nudged my legs apart and slid over the top of me.

But he didn’t slide inside. Instead, he held my gaze with his, those deep blue depths echoing the emotions that tumbled through his aura.

“I love you, Elizabeth Grace,” he said softly. “I have since that first moment in the forest, when I saw you leaning over Karen’s body.”

Amusement bubbled through me. “You mean when you called me a witch in a most derogatory way and basically shoved a gun in my face?”

“Yeah, then.” He laughed softly, a sound I felt through every inch of my body. “But that anger came more from my intense and totally unexpected reaction to your presence than the belief you had anything to do with Karen’s death. I wanted you then as fiercely as I want you now. And I will always love you. Never, ever doubt that.”

“I never did, Aiden. I just wasn’t sure love would ever be enough for you.”

“Love willalwaysbe enough.” His sudden smile was endearingly lopsided. “Of course, it did take me entirely too long to reach that realization.”

“Just as you’re taking entirely too long to get down to business.”

He laughed again, then caught my lips once more and kissed me soundly as he slipped slowly, agonizinglyslowly, inside. I groaned softly, then slid my hands down his back to his hips, gripping him lightly as he began to move, slowly at first and then with increasing need, until it was all passion, heat, and intensity. Until I was drowning in the storm of it but loving every minute. The rich ache grew, flaring across my body, becoming a kaleidoscope of sensations that washed through every corner of my mind. Once again, I couldn’t breathe, couldn’t think. I could only feel. Then the shuddering started, and I gasped, wrapping my legs around his hips to push him deeper still. Pleasure exploded between us, and my orgasm hit, ripping through my body, shuddering through my heart, my soul.

When I finally remembered how to breathe again, I opened my eyes and stared into his. “As entrées go, that was pretty damn fine.”

He grinned and slid to one side, propping up on one arm before kissing me softly. “Give me a minute or two, and we can start the main course.”

“As long as it’s only a minute or two.”

He raised his eyebrows, delight dancing through his expression. “My wife-to-be has become insatiable.”

“A sexual drought will do that to you.”

He laughed, pulled me closer, and began another long, slow seduction of senses and body.

It was a glorious way to spend a morning.

Once Aiden had left for his meeting with the council, I headed into the kitchen to do a little of the prep work needed for tomorrow. It was close to three when my phone rang. The tone told me it was actually the café’s number being called—we’d started diverting to either mine or Belle’s out of hours—so it was tempting to just ignore it, given we were closed. But instinct twitched.

I sometimes hated when it did that.

I hit the answer button, then said, rather warily, “Lizzie Grace speaking. How may I help you?”

There was no immediate answer, then a small voice said, “Are you the witch Nanny says helps her talk to Poppy and finds lost things?”

My heart did an odd flip-flop. It was a kid, and he couldn’t have been any older than five or six. He also sounded scared. “Yes, I am. Who are you?”

“Brandon.”

“And what have you lost, Brandon?”

“Nanny. I can’t find my nanny.”

Fuck. I briefly closed my eyes and prayed like hell she wasn’t the latest victim of either the basilisk or our vampires. “Are you at your nanny’s place right now?”

“Yes.”

I reached out to Belle. You busy? I’ve got a kid on the phone whose nan is missing. Can you get hold of Tala or Jaz for me?To Brandon, I added, “Was your nanny home this morning?”

“Yes.”

“And your mom?”
