“Or a stalker,” Augustus muttered.

And I knew, even as I turned my head to see for myself and cringed.

Percy was the man staring my way.

I immediately ducked my head behind Wes’s beefy shoulder, but it was too late. Percy had spotted me, and within seconds of our gazes meeting, he was on his way across the room.

“Crap,” I whispered.

“I didn’t think he’d ever want to see you again,” Beckett said. “You didn’t talk after the date, did you?”

“Tell me you didn’t…” Wes made a lewd gesture with his hands.

I slapped them down. “No!”

“Whew, I was worried you had gotten desperate.”

“Thanks a lot.”

Augustus snorted. “Percy is not his type. Daddies are.”

I gasped. That was not true.

He winced at my look of outrage. “Joe told me.”

Okay, so maybe it was a little true. Older men were undeniably attractive, but I didn’t have a type—other than decent, honest, loyal, and mature. Maybe older men more often fell into those parameters for me, but I wasn’t actively seeking them out.

Percy arrived at our table in time to overhear Augustus’s comment.

“Is that why you didn’t like me?” He huffed. “I’ll have you know I can handle naughty boys.”

Oh. My. God.

My face flamed as my friends all watched the trainwreck that was my dating life, courtesy of Nana.

“You need to be punished, don’t you, Clark?”

I shook my head. “No, I really don’t.”

A half laugh, half cough escaped Wes, which sent Beckett into a spurt of laughter. Bobbi clapped a hand over her mouth, shoulders shaking. Tucker wasn’t here to witness my humiliation, at least.

But just then, a heavy hand landed on my shoulder and Hunter’s deep voice rumbled behind me. “Maybe you should give Clark some space.”

Percy’s face twisted into a scowl. “You again.”

“Yep. I was invited.” He stared down Percy. “Were you?”

Percy huffed. “Whatever. We’re going to spank you tonight. Just watch the leaderboard for my team’s name, Deadly Accurate, and give me a call when you’re ready to grovel, Clark.”

“What a douche,” Augustus said as Percy walked away , loudly enough for his words to carry.

“Total creep,” Beckett agreed, nudging my side.

Hunter squeezed my shoulder. “Are you okay?”

“Never better,” I said, sounding overly bright. “Public humiliation is fun!”

“The only one he humiliated was himself,” Hunter said, sounding pissed.
